Please keep showing up for individuals in need because they truly do need us. There are so many systems continuing to fail families and children and being paid quite well to do so. This is what I believe: Many parts of our current child welfare system cause more harm than good. A lot of research has been done and a lot of data has been collected and analyzed and it basically keeps telling us the same things: People need safe, affordable housing, a better living wage, quality healthcare and child care and they need to be able to feel safe asking for help when they need it without fear of losing their children. They need to be able to call a resource hotline and get their needs met, not just get referrals to other places who then can't meet their needs either. Millions of dollars continues to flow into the same orgs, same consultants and same policy. I wonder what would happen if we gave more of this directly to the people. Maybe that would create the difference lots of people and orgs keep claiming they want to make. Waiting for all of this to someday make sense.
