In this next chapter of our BIOMED history series, we’re reflecting on the journey of relocation and growth that has shaped our institute over the years. Each move has mirrored BIOMED’s expanding research capabilities and our commitment to fostering collaboration.
🔬 Early Days: Initially, BIOMED was spread across Building A (formerly the Dr. Willems Institute) and Building D. However, as our research scope grew, we needed more specialized and cohesive spaces.
🔧 Mid-2000s Milestone: A significant turning point occurred with the renovation of Building C and the construction of a new animal facility. This allowed most of our researchers to relocate and benefit from our shared lab facilities, a concept we continue to implement today. Building C has since become the core of our research environment, fostering collaboration across disciplines. Additionally, Building A was renovated and continued to house part of the BIOMED researchers.
🏗️ Current Developments: As we speak, Building A is being demolished to make way for the new Health Campus developments. While part of our staff remains temporarily dispersed across various locations on the Diepenbeek campus (Bioville, prefab offices, Science Park), we’re eagerly awaiting the completion of the new BIOMED building (BIOMED VISION) in the coming years to unite all BIOMED staff again in one building.
This development, part of the Health Campus Limburg DC initiative, is made possible with support from POM Limburg, the Provincie Limburg (België), EFRO Vlaanderen and VLAIO - Flanders Innovation & Entrepreneurship (FIO). As we expand, we are more excited than ever to continue pushing the boundaries of biomedical research in state-of-the-art facilities that match our ambitions.
Stay tuned for more on BIOMED’s evolution!
