A Meal with the Principal: an Inquiry #justcurious Recently, a post from a very very very well-known school said that their high achieving students had an exclusive dinner at the Principal's residence. And I had questions...loads of them! What impact must it have on the children who went to that dinner, and on those who did not qualify? What did the conversation between students of these two groups look like the next day? Is an exclusive meal with the Principal used as a motivator? If yes, then is the taste of food, the exclusivity of the event or the exclusive time with the Principal, the real motivation, or is it all of them combined? Does this mean the Principal is treated like some demigod on a pedestal? Where is the inclusive community building that guides today's mindful educational philosophy? From the Archives | Feb 2020 During a #volunteer opportunity at a #government school, I had the chance to interact with a group of amazing students from very different backgrounds than my own. One particular encounter left a lasting #impression. I was responsible for measuring the heights and weights of the students and informing their respective teachers. A young woman in the 8th grade stood out for her #confidence and #positiveenergy. However, a teacher made an insensitive remark about her weight in front of me. I ignored it the first time. Then the students had to go to another volunteer to check their pulse and stuff. There, the teacher mocks again, in front of others, this time. I felt bad for the kid. If I wanted, it was easy for me to bad-mouth the teacher to the girl and she would’ve laughed. But that would’ve been wrong. It was tempting to engage in #negativity, but I chose a different path. Instead, I found a lighthearted way to #compliment her height, and to my delight, it brought a #genuine smile to her face. This #experience taught me a valuable lesson about the power of #positivity. Spreading kindness and fostering smiles, no matter how small the gesture, creates a ripple effect that can uplift ourselves and others. Spread love and smiles; not hatred. In today's world, #empathy and #compassion are more important than ever. Let's choose to be the change we wish to see, and focus on building one another up, not tearing each other down.
