As we think about what we’re most grateful for this week, our staff is at the top of our list. Their dedication inspires us daily, and gratitude fills our hearts as we look back on our recent annual staff retreat at Camp Scatico. Moments like these remind us of the strength, dedication, and connection that define our Apex for Youth team.💫 Each year, we come together for a multi-day overnight retreat to celebrate our achievements, tackle challenges, set future goals, and, most importantly, deepen the bonds that drive our shared mission. 🌟 Our retreat is a special time to reflect on why we’re so dedicated to empowering the next generation. Through fun activities from dance-offs and team challenges to sports, karaoke, and relaxing moments by the fire with s’mores and hot pot, we reconnected with each other, reignited our commitment to our mission and youth, and cherished the opportunity to come together as a team.❤️ #apexforyouth #staffretreat #teambuilding #gratitude Melissa Alvey, Annie Tan, Jing-Jing Hu, Isabelle Li Shen S., Kim Thai, Assumpta Galang, Paul Jochico, Shirley Chen, LCSW, Heather Lee, Ashwath Srivatsan, Jiyoon Mary Chung, Amy Zhao, Ivy Li, Ellie Yeo, Jia-Ming Tuan, Allen Leung, Haywood Matthews, Leakena Khy, Yaya Yuan, LMSW, Danny L., Serena Wong

🌟 Celebrating two meaningful occasions today : Bathtub Party Day 🛁 & International Volunteer Day 🌍 🌟 Today, December 5th, may seem like an unusual combination of celebrations, but it holds a deeper lesson in work-life balance and community spirit. 🛁 Bathtub Party Day reminds us to prioritize self-care and wellness. Whether it’s taking time to recharge in a warm bath or creating space for mental clarity, this day underscores the importance of maintaining our well-being. In high-pressure roles like mine in QHSE, it’s essential to lead by example in showing that a healthy individual contributes to a healthy organization. 🌍 International Volunteer Day, on the other hand, is a call to action for all of us to extend our hands, hearts, and time toward building stronger, more inclusive communities. As a passionate DE&I advocate, I believe volunteering is a powerful way to foster connection, break barriers, and create lasting impact - not just in our workplaces but in society at large. 🔹 My call to action : For Bathtub Party Day : schedule time today (or this week) to do something that brings you peace. Share your favorite self-care activity in the comments - let’s inspire each other! For International Volunteer Day : take a moment to reflect on how you or your organization can give back. Whether it’s mentoring, supporting a cause, or participating in a local initiative, your efforts matter. 🌟 💡 Let’s hear from you : What’s your favorite way to unwind and recharge? How are you volunteering your time or encouraging inclusivity in your workplace? Together, let’s celebrate balance - between self-care and giving back, between individual wellness and collective progress. #WellBeing #VolunteerDay #DEI #QHSE #SelfCare #Community

The Calgary Stampede connects to Mind Health and The Science of Happiness and here's why..... As people gather for ten days of unity and celebration, a vibrant energy shines bright. These days are more than just an event; they are a testament to the power of community, connection and shared joy. In these moments, we see firsthand how the energy of togetherness can elevate our spirits and strengthen our bonds. This collective experience is not only a reflection on Calgary's spirit but also a powerful reminder of the profound impact that positive social interactions have on our Mind Health and overall happiness. What if we could harness this energy and integrate it into corporate culture? When we come together, we create a ripple effect of positivity and support that resonates throughout our lives. Imagine the impact if we brought this same spirit into our workplaces. By fostering a culture of unity, collaboration, and shared purpose, we can create environments where employees feel connected, valued and inspired. Ways in which this spirit could integrate into corporate culture are: Encourage Team Collaboration Celebrate Achievements Together Prioritize Mind Health and Well-being Build a Supportive Environment Create Shared Experiences As we head into the final weekend of the Stampede - I am reflecting on the incredible power of coming together and the value of belonging. I am wishing all my YYC LinkedIn connections a safe and fun weekend and for those outside of YYC, if you have never been to the Stampede - I highly recommend coming sometime. If you are like most visitors, you will want to move to Calgary. #YEEHAW #Calgarystampede #calgary #corporateculture #workplacewellbeing #mindhealth #happiness

The FPF US Policy team had a two-day retreat last week to start our planning process for 2025, connect with one another, and think through challenges and strategy. It was such an amazing opportunity to spend time with the folks I work with every day to think beyond the immediate needs ahead to what is possible. I highly recommend these conscious planning sessions to any teams trying to act intentionally in their work (note: they don’t have to be in person, or even synchronous if there are logistical road blocks to doing so - but should be structured and responsive to current needs). If folks are interested in ways to think about team planning — forming goals and work plans toward achieving them — I’d be happy to share insights and lessons learned. For fun- The most divisive question turned out to be: would you rather spend a year in Europe with a $2,000 stipend, or spend 10 minutes on the moon? Which would you say? I’m 100% team 🌕.

In the spirit of being an employer who recognizes your employees' contributions and values throughout the year, there are three key areas that you can focus on outside of any holiday season: professional development, philanthropic initiatives and the future of work

When is a roundabout not a roundabout? While scrolling through the Roundabout Appreciation Society of the UK pages (as one does on a Tuesday night), I stumbled upon a rather unconventional 'roundabout'. It got me thinking - not just about whether this is really a roundabout, but also if here in Australia and New Zealand we would ever consider using such an arrangement. According to the Austroads Guide to Traffic Management Part 8, the guidance is clear: “It is inappropriate to use roundabouts at locations other than intersections”. But I tend to treat the Austroads Guides as just that - guides, open to alteration depending on the context. This got me curious about what the LinkedIn community thinks. Would you consider using a roundabout-like feature in a non-intersection scenario? And if so, when would it make sense? ...and for a bit of fun - there’s a prize for the first person who can guess the purpose of this unique UK 'roundabout.' 🏆

Celebrating International Left-Handers Day (it was yerterday, August 13th)! 🎉 Did you know that only about 10% of the world's population is left-handed? As a proud lefty, I’ve faced my share of challenges, from struggling with right-handed scissors in school to dealing with ink-stained hands and hunting for left-handed desks in university. But these experiences have taught me something valuable: there's always another way to approach a problem, and sometimes, that unconventional path leads to the best solutions. Being left-handed is a reminder that different perspectives are powerful and worth celebrating. So, here's to embracing uniqueness and thinking outside the box! Any other lefties out there? How has being left-handed shaped your journey? 💪✋ Wishing everyone a great week ahead!
