please save this post as a reminder of when the SMM girlies say “hashtags don’t matter.” we’ve been telling you that these platforms have switched to search engine model using captions, captions on video and AI to scan and categorize content. please leave hashtags 🫶🏾 - your friendly social girlie edit: campaign hashtags for tracking are a wholeeee diff story <3
Say goodbye 👋🏾 to following hashtags on Instagram. Starting December 13th, you’ll no longer be able to follow hashtags, and any hashtags you currently follow will no longer appear in your feed. Hashtags, once central to content discovery on Instagram, have pretty much become almost nonexistent. Being able to follow hashtags was a helpful way to follow content from communities and track UGC that used branded hashtags. For example, when I worked with LL Bean as a creator, I followed the #BeanOutsider hashtag to find inspiration from other creators posting about the brand. It’ll be interesting to see what Instagram comes up with as an alternative. For more Instagram updates, sign up for my free newsletter: https://lnkd.in/ePw7H66j

NEW INSTAGRAM HASHTAG UPDATE! On December 13, Instagram is removing the option to follow its once-famous hashtags. Creators can still add hashtags to their content, however, their followers will have to follow the creator's pages to continue on seeing content that is relevant to their interests. Some Social Media experts, believe that this is just another step to Instagram's hashtags slow death. Others believe, that this will push creators to do more engaging and consistent content. What do you think about this new update? #Instagram #SocialMedia

When is the last time you searched content using a hashtag, except perhaps trends or campaigns hashtags? I’ve been having this debate with folks for quite a while, that hashtags are declining as a means of discovery. Moseri, the Head of Instagram, said it himself a few years back. The exception are campain/trends hashtags where you want to link all content together with a hashtag anchor. Data also indicates that users consume more of what the algorithm shows them or what their friends share with them. In other words we scroll… We’ve all been there, scrolling endlessly. The search function is not as highly used. Hashtags have become simply noise.

During my time at WSU, we used a certain hashtag that incoming students would post to their social feeds to share their commitment pictures. Heck, it was even a part of their mailed acceptance package. Every student would post a picture with this poster that featured the hashtag on their IG, and WSU would go in and search the hashtag for pictures to feature on the main campus channel. This will be a HUGE shift if they remove the search completely. How will brands find UGC content? I am looking forward to seeing what the alternative is and how brands will pivot their strategy moving forward. #socialmedia #socialmediastrategy #socialmediamarketing

The Truth of Instagram Hashtags Exposed: The Instagram algorithm is constantly evolving. Recent insights suggest that hashtags, while once a powerful tool, might not be the magic bullet they used to be. Quality Trumps Quantity: Instagram's focus has shifted towards content quality over hashtag usage. Minimalism Can Be Mighty: Many viral reels have succeeded without any hashtags, proving that engaging content is paramount. Moderation is Key: Overusing hashtags can lead to spam flags and reduced visibility. So, what should your hashtag strategy be? Keep it Concise: Aim for 5 or fewer relevant hashtags per post. Diversify Your Tags: Avoid using the same hashtags repeatedly. Prioritize Quality: Focus on creating engaging content that naturally attracts attention. For eg : hashtags like explore, fyp and reels are extremely broad and are in fact capable of deteriorating your reach. By following these guidelines, you can optimize your hashtag strategy and maximize your reach on Instagram. #InstagramMarketing #DigitalMarketing #SocialMediaMarketing #ContentMarketing #SocialMediaTips

The idea that hashtags are dead is purely nonsensical and I don’t know where this notion came from. The point of hashtags is to - "Categorize your posts for specific topics and targeted visibility." If you choose not to use hashtags, it's simply a matter of preference. Whether your post succeeds or flops hinges on what's inside your image/video, and the caption that complements it. Not the HASHTAGS. If your post flops, It’s not an excuse to blame hashtags! when the content quality is where you should be focusing. #justiceforhashtags 😭 #socialexceed
