Beating the odds - making every step count! Let’s get real— education was never my strong suit! I was a below-average student and back in the 90s, career options for ‘not a top performer’ were limited. For me, the only path forward was SALES. Sales is not just about numbers or targets—it’s about people. It’s about understanding their needs, building trust, and delivering value. I loved the idea of meeting new people every day, but my journey wasn’t smooth. When I moved to Bangalore in 1998, I barely spoke English. Kannada was my only stronghold. Survival felt like an uphill battle. And then there was the infamous sales requirement—a two-wheeler. In those days, a salesperson had to cover long distances and a two-wheeler was the basic need. I couldn’t afford one. Many companies rejected me because of it. But I wasn’t prepared to call it quits. Finally, I landed my first sales job in the B2B sector, working for a uniform manufacturing company. My boss laid down the biggest challenge: getting a two-wheeler within 6 months. I had to hit the industrial areas—Whitefield, Electronic City, Hosur, Peenya, Attibele, and more. While others cruised around on their bikes, I walked, caught buses, and hitched rides to reach those places and meet my targets. My colleagues, equipped with bikes, could manage just 5-7 cold calls, but I was hitting 20-30 visits a day, navigating from door to door. Looking back, those struggles were the foundation of my career. They didn’t just make me a better salesperson—they made me unstoppable. Every setback taught me something new, fueled my fire, and sharpened my skills.
