The new US de minimis exemption regulations could disrupt UK to US e-commerce shipments, impacting textiles and apparel that currently avoid duties. 📦 This could lead to higher shipping costs and tighter customs scrutiny in future. Forwarders working with e-commerce clients should monitor these developments closely, as new rules may alter demand patterns and capacity needs on transatlantic routes. With peak season capacity already limited, preparing for potential shifts is key. Talk to our team to plan ahead for these regulatory shifts and maintain your competitive edge: https://lnkd.in/eXJ9shv2

Fun Fact: Formal Credit reporting got its start in 1776 with tailors in London, that agreed to share customer some intelligence to protect their industry from bad actors that would just go from shop to shop with no accountability. Like how LTL industry operates today, everyone learns the hard way. By sharing a little bit of data amongst competitors, it not only protected the merchants, but it also created accountability and trained customers on best practices for preferred pricing to the benefit of all. Soon there were hundreds of industry specific credit bureaus that eventually were consolidated to what we now know as the big three. Now, we all care about our credit scores and act accordingly. My Soap Box: The concept has been tested and proven effective for nearly 250 years. I believe it’s time for a Freight Score and LTL shipper accountability on over 20 metrics beyond just payments. The win isn’t just for the carriers, shippers benefit from vendor insights and customer visibility to understand who’s dragging my pricing down and why. Use the scores to create freight policies and incentives for trading partners and be more informed when approaching carrier negotiations. I know we don’t live on the bleeding edge in our beloved LTL industry, but the time and tech are perfect for data driven shipper scoring. Carriers are opening record amounts of (new-to-them) terminals and territories with the same reactionary tactics as English tailors in 1775. We can take a more mature perspective and raise the tide for the industry. Thanks for reading, now let’s do something about it. Ask your carriers about your Freight Score make sure they participate. I’m here to help. #LTL, #LTLCarriers

+++Late Payments Agreement+++ It looks like the Rapporteur with EPP, S&D and Green Shadows have reached an agreement on the Late Payment Proposal along these lines: 30 days for G2B 30 days for B2B as a default for all contracts 60 days for B2B if previously agreed and not unfair 120 days for slow moving and seasonal goods Slow moving and seasonal goods will be defined in the legal text and eventually further set out in Commission Guidance. On the face of it, most retailers probably could live with this, although it does create more work internally without addressing the root causes of late payment. However, if this passes IMCO and Plenary, retailers can expect a decent looking compromise with the Council. One proviso: EPP, Renew and ECR are not aligned internally so expect a few splits to emerge. 😉
