Germany’s longstanding tie up with adidas is set to come to an end and Nike will make its football kits from 2027. adidas last signed an eight-year contract with the Germany Football Federation in 2018, meaning the men’s 2026 men’s World Cup will be one of the last times the German team’s kit will be worn. During adidas partnership with Germany, which has spanned more than 70 years, the team has won four men’s World Cups, three men’s Euros, two women’s World Cups and eight women’s Euros with the collaboration responsible for many iconic shirts during the 1980s and 1990s. The Adidas-Germany partnership has been deeply ingrained in the cultural fabric of German football and the kits have become synonymous with the team's identity, representing their values, heritage, and traditions. Two questions arise for me. 1) Is this another signal of the well publicized tough times adidas is experiencing and 2) do fans really care who makes their favorite kits as long as they’re cool and fashionable ? What do you think ?

I get it one hand, but Germany and Adidas not being connected through football off things seems so strange. (Also shoutout for picking a photo of a truly iconic kit).

Ach Du lieber!

Wow! Never saw this coming. My friends and I were having this conversation in the context of Man U and Arsenal, who now have Adidas kits, and how some clubs are just “Nike” clubs. Most of the clubs and national teams that played with flare when we were kids, were sponsored by Nike, so I think your second question has merit. Obviously the die hards and ultras will buy the kit regardless of who sponsors the squad, but there will be contingent that stay aligned with their brand preference.

Nike had been accused of dropping football (key clubs, leagues, stars) however this is a strong signal they still care very much about football. Change is good, excited to see Adidas’ next move after this.

Plenty of iconic Adidas kits over the years. Surprised too they've replaced a 'German' brand with an American... oh, and no more number #44 being sold (SS).

On the one hand, I understand, yet it seems so odd that Adidas and Germany aren't related through football.

Honestly it's kind of sad for me being 1/3 Deutcher!
