In my capacity at Emergence, I continually seek opportunities to leverage data in order to enhance the quality of our decision-making. Which is why today, I am delighted to present Emergence's inaugural edition of Beyond Benchmarks, a report which aims to equip founders and executives with the insights needed for more informed decision-making. We gathered data from over 600 B2B software companies and divided the report into three main sections: GenAI trends, Fundraising Environment, and Company Performance Metrics. To give you a small snippet of what we found: 1) Not surprisingly, 60% of respondents implemented GenAI in 2023. However, it was surprising to see the discrepancy in how / if companies are monetizing for it. 2) 2023 was a challenging year for software companies – we saw customers scrutinizing their software spend which resulted in lower gross dollar retention and lower growth. Certain product price points experienced more scrutiny than others. 3) Fundraising is meaningfully harder today than it has been in the past few years. We found public markets are valuing growth at 2-3x profitability.
