Waterspouts: How Dangerous Are Ocean Tornados? Waterspouts are rotating columns of air over water, similar to tornadoes but less powerful in most cases. They can be either fair-weather waterspouts, which are weaker and form in calm conditions, or tornadic waterspouts, which form in severe thunderstorms and can cause significant damage, especially when moving onto land. The article explores how these phenomena are common in areas with warm seas like the Mediterranean, Florida Keys, and Gulf of Mexico. With rising sea surface temperatures, the frequency and intensity of waterspouts may increase, posing greater risks to maritime activities. #YachtingInternationalRadio #MarineSafety #TornadoVsWaterspout #OceanStorms #ClimateChangeImpact #WaterspoutRisk #OffshoreHazards

A Southern Utah storm (as long as everyone stays safe) can be a really cool thing to experience. --- Being a desert climate, rain, wind, and lightning can roll in quickly. --- It's important to act accordingly and stop work if the weather turns dangerous in these scenarios. --- This photo was quickly taken at the St. George airport during our reconstruction of the terminal apron approach. --- Utah is rad. Building the Best is rad.

PerilScope: 3°C? No Problem, We’re Totally Prepared (Just Kidding) Oh, 3°C? No biggie. We’ve been to so many conferences, discussed so many plans, signed so many declarations. We’ve totally got this—until we don’t. Sure, we’ve talked about sea level rise, mass migration, and extreme weather events for years, but what’s the rush? We’ll get around to it eventually. Who cares that the infrastructure isn’t ready yet? There’s time to wait. Maybe the next storm won’t be that bad. What’s the worst that could happen? You know, aside from cities being underwater and whole populations on the move. But hey, that’s Future Us’s problem.

🪸Coral reefs are essential ecosystems, providing homes for marine life and protecting coastlines against waves, floods, and storms. 🌊 Protecting 30% of the ocean by 2030 is important to preserve the health of coral reefs and those who depend on them. Mark your calendars for November 15–17 and December 13–15, 2024! During these dates, California will experience King tides, our highest (and lowest) tides of the year. The California Coastal Commission needs our help to photograph our coasts during these extreme high tides. What is a King Tide? “King tides,” also known as perigean spring tides, refers to the highest tides of the year when the sun and the moon are both at their closest to Earth. They occur twice a year, with the moon having about twice the sun’s gravitational force on the oceans. Why It Matters: These extreme tides, when combined with storms and sea level rise, often lead to coastal flooding, erosion, and impacts on local ecosystems. King tides show us what our future coasts will look like with climate change and can help spur coastal resilience discussions. You can participate in the California King Tides Project by posting your #KingTides photographs. You can find local King Tide times and browse the photos on the California King Tides Project Website: https://lnkd.in/gbvyAGN #KingTides #ClimateChange #CaliforniaCoast #EnvironmentalAwareness #Sustainability
