🐾 Breaking Down Barriers for People with Pets 🏠 Over the weekend, BBC News highlighted a critical issue—the difficulty people with pets face when trying to access supported accommodation. According to Street Vets, less than 10% of hostels accept pets, leaving many individuals in impossible situations. But here’s something hopeful to highlight! All of our Emergency Beds and Lead Worker Plus accommodation accept pets, following a thorough risk assessment. This is a huge step forward for ensuring no one is forced to choose between their pet and their own safety. Paul McKeown, shared that not all services are the same, and we believe it’s important to showcase these positive practices to raise awareness, challenge norms, and inspire others to adopt more inclusive policies. 🐕🏡 #AccommodationForAll #PetsAndPeople #InclusiveHousing #HomelessnessAwareness #StreetVets #PetFriendlyPolicy #BreakingBarriers #EmergencyHousing

https://lnkd.in/eiECnPww Dr. Edward Schettino, DVM, PhD, MBA, CAWA article featured in the Boston Globe Media shines a light on a heartbreaking reality: in #Boston, too many families are forced to choose between housing and their beloved #pets. This should never be the case, and it doesn’t have to be. In our book "Petriots: From Home to the World", Vera Gualdi and I explore three avenues to address this issue: the legal, the legislative, and what we call the invisible paw—a metaphor inspired by Adam Smith's invisible hand, emphasizing the role of the private sector. Taking an international perspective, we hope our work inspires and motivates relevant parties in Boston and beyond to act. Boston deserves better, and with collaboration across sectors, no one should ever have to choose between their home and their family—pets included. https://lnkd.in/eHKaFCed #PetFriendlyHousing #MultispeciesFamilies #PrivateSectorInnovation #HousingCrisis #PetPolicy #CommunityAction #AnimalWelfare #AffordableHousing #BostonDeservesBetter

#Landlords, it's time to reconsider your "no pets" policy. Contrary to popular belief, the average total reported cost of pet-related damage was a mere £300 per tenancy. In contrast, non-pet-related damage caused by tenants without pets came in at a whopping £775. That's right, pet-owning #tenants are causing less damage than their pet-less counterparts! A recent report, commissioned by Battersea and led by the University of Huddersfield, Sheffield Hallam University, and Brunel University asked 2,000 private landlords and 1,000 private renters about letting with pets. EXTENDED! Ontario renters, we still want to hear from you! In Ontario, “no pets” clauses in rental agreements have been invalid and unenforceable since the late 1990s, but many renters still face challenges. As rentals have become less affordable throughout the province, we continue to hear stories of people being denied accommodation or feeling forced to choose between their animals and housing. Humane Canada is conducting a short survey for Ontario renters with animals to share their experiences anonymously. Your input will help identify gaps in the legislation that require attention. It's National Estate Planning Awareness Week (October 21 - 27) What happens to pets upon the death of an owner? Through estate plans, owners are able to ensure the needs of their pets are met, even if something happens to them. When considering estate planning for pets, essential factors include: 🐾 Identifying unique care needs and the desired living arrangement for each pet. 🐾 Allocating financial resources for their care. 🐾Selecting responsible individuals for daily care and financial oversight. Failure to plan can leave pets at risk of not receiving proper care or even euthanization. To mitigate such outcomes, establishing a pet trust can provide a structured solution, offering peace of mind that your pets will receive the care and protection they deserve in your absence. Pet approvals have always been a contentious issue within body corporate schemes, and last year’s amendments to the BCCMA (Body Corporate and Community Management Act) further reduced the ability for buildings to set their own pet preferences. On 24 April 2024, the Queensland Government announced more changes to the legislation regarding pets. Taking effect from 1 May 2024 these will impact nearly all* body corporate communities in Queensland. Check out the full article about the legislation changes and what they mean to all owners and residents living within a body corporate scheme - https://loom.ly/KU_Ju80 #pets #bodycorporate #petapprovals
