“Rejecting AI would be like rejecting the internet 50-plus years ago. As that realization grows, I believe that 2025 will be the year most universities finally come to terms with AI on both a policy and a pedagogical level. Any institution that chooses to ignore AI will likely find itself struggling for relevance in the next decade.”

It’s interesting reading the forecasts for AI and higher ed in 2025. Honestly, little of these perspectives, which are worth reading, give me faith that higher ed is even getting it. Some of the perspectives are protectionist about AI rather than thinking of it as opportunity. Teaching about ai seems to inspire a course about ai for each student, as if one course, without the spaced repetition education needs, can teach the mindsets needed. There’s little apparent concern about the pace of change, or in several of the responses, a notion that major change is required. Mind you, I’m not even specifying what major change is required, but am concerned that people aren’t seeing this for the transition it is. I’m not the sort who preaches ai use everywhere, but I still really feel like people aren’t “getting it,” whether that be what students need to understand about AI or what its impact could be. #ai #education #highered #college #universities
