Moving from a long-time home isn’t just about packing boxes and transporting furniture, it’s about transitioning a life. At Your Senior's Concierge, we understand that every item, every room, and every corner of the house holds a memory.
Recently, we had the privilege of helping a senior client relocate from Strathmore to Calgary. Among the things she wanted to take with her was a beautiful 1950s piano. This piano wasn’t just an instrument, it was a piece of family history, inherited when she purchased the house years ago. But as we all know, life moves quickly, and sometimes we’re faced with difficult decisions.
The piano’s future seemed uncertain. No one was calling, and the market for second-hand pianos was flooded. A young couple, Tyler and his wife, attempted to move it, but the stairs from the basement defeated them. They left empty-handed, and we were faced with the heartbreaking prospect of sending it to the The City of Calgary Landfills - Shepard.
But we didn’t give up. We reached out to a piano mover, Fernando, who was willing to help – if we could find someone to take it. After more outreach, we floated an idea to the young couple. If they paid one third of the cost to move the piano (which was free) are they ‘in’. They felt the same as us and just couldn’t let the piano go to waste. We had a deal! And the piano received a second life.
What started as a potential tragedy turned into a triumph, not just for the piano, but for the memories it represented.
This experience reminded us why we do what we do. Taking the time to problem-solve, to think beyond the usual solutions, is a big part of how we help seniors through these emotional transitions. Sometimes it’s about more than moving boxes – it’s about moving memories.
It’s a process we take seriously, with compassion and respect. At Your Senior's Concierge, we understand the importance of preserving family history, finding the right solutions, and offering a human touch when the world is moving faster than ever.
Here’s to new beginnings, new homes, and preserving what matters most.
