I’ll be presenting at the Jersey Productivity Conference in a few weeks and I have a great process map to share which gives an insight into public sector waste and how it affects the social sector. The first step to change is realising what the process is and how much the waste costs. There is so much we can do if we have the data and the motivation to improve.
Don't miss this amazing line up in Jersey!....... get booked below 👇 https://lnkd.in/ehGTCDJE Cant wait for the event Rory Steel Sebastian Lawson Serena Guthrie MBE Jon Watkins, FCMI Rebecca Berry Allan Watts Brian Butler and Jim Lawless

At just 13, Bobby Fischer’s queen sacrifice against Donald Byrne looked disastrous—yet it’s now hailed as the “move of the century.” In the 2012 WSOP Main Event, Greg Merson losing 97% of his stack in Day 5 seemed like a death sentence—yet he battled back to become champion. When I had to close my family’s candy store, a dream built with care and energy, it felt like utter defeat—but it taught me invaluable lessons about leadership, operations, and adaptability, ultimately guiding me toward AI. And when I lost my mother at only 51—healthy, athletic, and so full of life—it was the most devastating blow of all, yet her memory fuels my resilience, shaping who I am today. At first glance, each event seems purely “bad.” But what if every experience is inherently neutral, and it’s our interpretation that colors it good or bad? The queen sacrifice often signals loss—until it’s played by a genius. The short stack in poker usually signals elimination—until the player turns it into a triumphant comeback. A closed storefront signifies failure—until it opens doors to new opportunities. Even losing someone so dear, though undeniably painful, can inspire profound inner growth. Our judgments stem from past beliefs and fears. By recognizing this, we can stop labeling moments prematurely. Some setbacks spark greatness, and the events that break our hearts can also shape our best selves. In the end, we choose how to see the story.
Greg Merson loses 97% of his stack and is left with less than 3 bb WSOP Main Event 2012 Day 5

Thanks Dr Shan Hussain for this powerful speech at LMC conference highlighting the hugely damaging impact of CQC inspections on GP practices. These are not measuring quality, but are a box ticking exercise using questionable parameters resulting in a discredited and unfair single word rating system, that is misleading patients and the public. The inspections are doing more harm than good, demoralising clinicians and staff and affecting their mental health, as well as diverting huge amount of time away from patient care into slavishly spending weeks ticking questionable and excessive bureaucratic tick boxes. These inspections need to stop and be replaced by a meaningful and supportive system focused on genuinely improving quality of care.
