𝗗𝗼𝗰𝘁𝗼𝗿 𝗦𝗺𝗶𝘁𝗵: “We're doing the same job. Why am I being paid $30,000 less than Dr. Jones?” 𝗗𝗼𝗰𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘀 𝗪𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗶𝗮𝗺𝘀: “I've been here for four years longer than Dr. Adams, why is his salary $45,000 higher than mine?” Doctors should talk about their salaries, at work, with other doctors. Hear me out…it just takes like 30 seconds of courage. When you go to work tomorrow, tell a doctor colleague your salary. They will likely offer to tell you how much they’re being paid. But, what happens if the other doctor doesn’t tell you their salary? The goal in telling other doctors your salary is to de-stigmatize talking about your salary at work. Eventually, a doctor will discover that they are paid MUCH LESS than their partner with the same training, but even less experience. Here’s your mission, should you choose to accept it: At work, tomorrow, tell another doctor your salary.

Dear Fellow Doctors, It has come to attention that numerous job postings on platforms like LinkedIn and Indeed are being shared by organizations that are financially constrained. These entities often offer salaries far below the market standard, creating a false perception of our profession’s worth. Please be cautious and avoid applying for or accepting positions with organizations that undervalue our expertise and commitment. Accepting such roles not only affects your financial stability but also contributes to a downward trend in our collective market value. In many cases, these organizations fail to honor even the low salaries they promise. To maintain the dignity of our profession and ensure fair compensation, we urge you to not accept offers below AED 16k aed. Let’s stand together and uphold the respect and value our profession deserves. Be sensible, stay informed, and demand what you are worth.

How can policy makers support the transition from a low-paid job to a better job? @Claus Schnabel of FAU Erlangen-Nürnberg offers some insights in his IZA World of Labor article: 'Low-wage employment- Are low-paid jobs stepping stones to higher-paid jobs, do they become persistent, or do they lead to recurring unemployment?.' #LowWages #steppingstone Elevator pitch Low-wage employment has become an important feature of the labor market and a controversial topic for debate in many countries. How to interpret the prominence of low-paid jobs and whether they are beneficial to workers or society is still an open question. The answer depends on whether low-paid jobs are largely transitory and serve as stepping stones to higher-paid employment, whether they become persistent, or whether they result in repeated unemployment. The empirical evidence is mixed, pointing to both stepping-stone effects and “scarring” effects (i.e. long-lasting detrimental effects) of low-paid work. https://lnkd.in/dFy3xGa
