Picoxystrobin Picoxystrobin is an enoate ester that is the methyl ester of (2E)-3-methoxy-2-[2-({[6-(trifluoromethyl)pyridin-2-yl]oxy}methyl)phenyl]prop-2-enoic acid. A cereal fungicide used to control a wide range of diseases including brown rust, tan spot, powdery mildew and net blotch. It has a role as a mitochondrial cytochrome-bc1 complex inhibitor and an antifungal agrochemical. Xylose-Lysine Deoxycholate Agar (XLD Agar) pic: Salmonella XLD Agar has been recommended for the identification of Enterobacteriaceae. The media formulation does not allow the overgrowth of other organisms over Salmonella and Shigella.Lysine is included to differentiate the Salmonella group from the non-pathogens. Salmonellae rapidly ferment xylose and exhaust the supply. Subsequently lysine is decarboxylate by the enzyme lysine decarboxylase to form amines with reversion to an alkaline pH that mimics the Shigella reaction.Bacteria that decarboxylate lysine to ‘cadaverine’ can be recognized by the appearance of a red colouration around the colonies due to an increase in pH. To add to the differentiating ability of the formulation, an H2S indicator system, consisting of sodium thiosulphate and ferric ammonium citrate, is included for the visualization of hydrogen sulphide produced, resulting in the formation of colonies with black centers.

Peroxide value test, why starch indicator? Why not phenolphthalein indicator? Why not Methyl red or bromocresol green? This is used instead of other types of indicators because it forms a deep blue complex with iodine. Now this the chemistry 👇👇👇 Starch is made up of amylose and amylopectin, amylose is made up of linear unbranched α-D-glucose units linked by α(1→4) glycosidic bonds unlike its amylopectin counterparts which is branched α(1→6) glycosidic bonds. The arrangements of glucose unit in amylose allows a hydrogen bond between the hydroxyl groups, and this bond causes it to coil into a helix, now this helical structure forms a reaction between the iodine and starch helix. The result is the deep blue black colour!! And this is used to get the endpoint when titrating with sodium thiosulphate. In a nutshell, Iodine is liberated during the reaction between peroxides in the sample and potassium iodine (KI). This liberation of iodine is caused by amylose in the starch and peroxides in your sample 🤷♀️🤷♀️🤷♀️ Got it??
