Are thematic investments just hype, or are they worth it? Thematic investments are strategies built around specific trends, themes, or sectors expected to drive long-term growth. Think renewable energy, artificial intelligence, healthcare innovation, or space exploration. They’re sold as products that group assets aligned with a particular theme, making them both intriguing and controversial. In this episode of Money Mixtape of World Radio Switzerland, Victor Cianni, FRM, our Chief Investment Officer, pulls back the curtain on this polarising topic. He explores the opportunities, unpacks the risks, and explains why skepticism is sometimes justified. 🎧 Dive in to hear an expert breakdown in just 10 minutes! Last week Themis Foresight published its study on #Futures of the #European #Capital #Market. This study examines the #future role of the EU's capital market in financing the #netzero #transition of the #economy and, in particular, the success of the #energy transition. Based on BloombergNEF’s “New Energy Outlook 2024”, which forecasts a need of annual investments of up to USD 7.6 trillion by 2050, Themis Foresight and NORD/LB analyzed the performance of the European capital market in comparison to other regions. Although sufficient capital is available, inefficient allocation is identified as the main problem. The study highlights the challenges of a bank-centric approach and the fragmentation of the markets. It presents four scenarios for the future of the capital market and argues for a comprehensive reform as the most promising way to achieve climate finance targets. We want to thank Ingrid Spletter-Weiss, Martin Hartmann, and Jens Dierksen of NORD/LB for the fruitful collaboration during this project. My personal thanks go to Felix Tegeler, James Hoefnagels and Carina Stöttner for excellent research, expert interviews and design in a very tight schedule. A free download link to the study will be found in the comments. Berlin Advisors Group, LEADING MINDS, Premium Speakers Agency

I can highly recommend this study to broaden our views beyond credit markets and different levels of „entanglement“ between the credit and capital markets from a regional and timing perspectice. A successful transition towards net zero urgently needs this kind of „dialogue“ particularly in Europe.
