My 8th MJBizCon is a wrap. After 15 years of employee benefit planning for cannabis operators, attending MJBizCon 2024 reaffirmed that I’m right where I’m meant to be. This industry sits at the crossroads of my expertise and passions: healthcare funding, behavioral health, legislative advocacy, and service. ✨ What was hot years ago, continue - topics I wrote about in 2018 remain virtually unchanged in 2024. If you'd like me to send you articles on these topics let me know: 🧨 Health Insurance Coverage of Cannabis Medicine 🧨 ACA Blind spots - Why your CPA should calculate Control Group status every time your investor deck changes ✨ Bravo FlowerHire for creating, and including me at, the Cannabis HR Leadership Summit. 🧨 The more I know, the more I can help my clients, their people and all my industry colleagues. 🧨 Your speakers and panels were full of quality thought and industry leaders, approachable and with a tangible thirst for learning. 🧨 A vibe of sharing and caring permeated. ✨ The side conversations about the mental health of cannabis employees were particularly impactful, and discussions about employer strategies to support their people important, and more importantly heart-warming. 🧨 I owe some follow up materials to some of you - look for it Monday! ✨ There's a maturing of the industry in regions, and the wild west in the new innovative markets. ✨ I continue to be fascinated by the process our nation is going through as we incrementally pull back cannabis prohibition. ✨ And then it comes down to the people - good friends, doing good work in so many ways, reuniting with those I've not seen recently, and making new friends. Indeed the time of my career!

Had a great conversation with Chris Crawford, founder of RxSaveCard, on the Let's Grab Coffee Podcast this week. Based out of #Chicago, Chris has built an innovative pharmacy benefit solution that allows employers and their employees to integrate an array of cost containment strategies into one integrated navigation and payment experience. The goal: make prescription medications more affordable. Rx Save Card recently closed a $1.7M seed funding round led by Distributed Ventures (shoutout to my good friends Shawn Ellis, Adam Blumencranz, Janet Xu, Hylton Irons) and participation from industry insiders. 💰 Why switching PBMs isn’t always the answer 🚀 How to make prescription savings simple for employers 🎯 Building innovative solutions in regulated industries My key takeaways 👇 1. Simplify Prescription Savings for Employers RxSaveCard shows that you don’t need to change PBMs to unlock savings. It’s about finding the right solution to work with your existing setup. Focus on providing clear value with no complicated transitions. 2. Why Employers Should Care About Pharmacy Benefits Prescription drug costs are rising – but savings are possible without disruption. Start with the basics: get the best prices and provide easy access to employees. 3. How RxSaveCard Solves Real Problems for Employers By offering cash and discount card options, RxSaveCard makes it easier for companies to manage their drug spend. No need to change benefit providers or PBMs, just better pricing. 4. Building Relationships with Employers & Health Plans Chris has deep experience in employee benefits and knows what works. It’s all about creating relationships and earning trust with employers and health plans. 5. The Importance of Deeply Understanding the Customer’s Perspective. A great idea isn’t enough—it's essential to meet customers where they are, consider their specific challenges, and keep refining the model to truly add value. Another self-funded employer is being sued. Well Fargo & Co. was accused of overpaying for prescription drugs by former employees, who claim mismanagement of the bank's health plan drove up costs for works. The Wells Fargo plan paid almost $10,000 for a generic pill for multiple sclerosis that Wegmans pharmacies sold for $648, according to the compliant, driving up premiums and out of pocket costs. We expect more lawsuits like this and the Johnson & Johnson case that preceded it. Listen to our latest Benefits Alliance podcast (episode 150) on PBM Regulation and Litigation and a Review of the J&J Case. https://lnkd.in/eqUGyAbk DM me to learn the two ways to both 1) eliminate your firm's risk of litigation and 2) drastically reduce pharmacy spend without disrupting access to prescriptions.
