Being there for each other is the greatest quality in life that we learn as humans. Trekking nurtures the idea of achieving as a team. People come from multiple cities, varied cultures, and different mindsets; working as a team towards a common objective is indeed a fascinating thought. We can never imagine how quickly strangers can become friends on a trek. Guarding their fellow trekkers outside the toilet tent on pitch-dark night. Comforting someone with words when the other person feels homesick. Staying behind just to motivate your slow-paced trekker friend. Taking turns bringing hot water from the kitchen tent in knee-deep snow. Surviving harsh conditions together and charging up each other with your experiences, songs, and humour. Giving a warm hug to your friend and expressing the joy of discovering your summit. You can unknowingly heal someone from within during this journey, and you will never know about it. Trekking is better understood once you are out there, on the trail of self-discovery, by understanding the people around you. The attitude of altitude is being humble, approachable, and becoming a better version of yourself. #team #trekking

This really is a throwback Thursday picture - 1995 and my first Himalayan summit. The pure exhilaration of reaching the summit can’t really be described but it’s such an awesome feeling and it leaves you wanting for more! As well as climbing to this superb summit on my first trip to the Himalayas I also climbed a steep learning curve, especially when it came to understanding the effects of altitude and how to manage them. I was young and fit on this trip, I’d climbed in the Alps, surely altitude wasn’t going to be a problem? Well, it certainly was and believe me, altitude sickness or AMS as it’s referred to, is not nice! Despite getting ill, I took on board the advice of those more experienced, descended, rested and came back with a more measured approach and successfully summited. It’s just a shame I had to learn the hard way! Undeterred, I continued to climb and explore at high altitude, developing a strategy that helps avoid altitude sickness and maximises the chances of success. "Does it take that long???" 😱 A beautiful festival is held in Tarvisio every year on top of a mountain, where the borders between Italy, Austria and Slovenia meet, the 'Festa dell'Amicizia dei Tre Confini'. One year, I decided to go there with friends. I must say that I'm terrible at ascents, I have very little breath and resistance. It was supposed to be a not-too-difficult walk of about an hour on a well-marked road, but it turned out to be a 2-hour walk (+ 15 minutes for the mandatory breaks!) through the trees. I didn't even have the right trekking shoes 🤦♀️ But, exhausted lungs aside, I'm thankful that they didn't tell me at the beginning, otherwise I would have missed out on a great adventure, lots of laughs and a breathtaking view! I have the feeling that we have lost the patience that allows us to enjoy even the most difficult journeys, which are necessary to reveal our strength, and perhaps this stems from the speed at which the world is going now. In a few moments we can send and receive messages, in 2 days or less we can receive a package, in 15 minutes we get our lunch delivered at home. This also leads us to unconsciously relate to personal growth and achievement in the same way. We should learn to decouple the speed of today's technological world, from our inner growth and enjoy the journey, without thinking that if we don't get where we want to be in a short time, then we have made a mistake or failed 💚 Take care of the journey, not just the destination. #personalGrowth #slowJourney #enjoyTheProcess #thoughts
