Help spread the word!!! What a great example of going above and beyond in #patientadvocacy and #clinicaladvocacy by a #Physicianleader to have a wider spread impact to physicians and patients everywhere! Better yet, let’s get this included in EMRs as an electronic care flow! athenahealth, Cerner Corporation, Epic, eClinicalWorks, Allscripts: Any plans to embed evidence based checklists like this into the EMRs? Thank you, Ted James, MD, MHCM, for going above and beyond and sharing this great resource with the world! #patientoutcomes #evidencebasedmedicine
Healthcare Transformation Leader, Strategic Advisor, Speaker. Advancing Innovation and Patient-Centered Care
I don't usually discuss my clinical projects here, but I’m making an exception to highlight a recent initiative. We collaborated with The American Society of Breast Surgeons and an international team of surgeons to develop a Breast Surgery Checklist. It's designed to improve safety and reduce common pitfalls in breast surgery. The work originated from our research and clinical experience, and it draws on checklist concepts popularized by Atul Gawande and Peter Pronovost. While not groundbreaking, it’s an example of how a simple, low-tech innovation (and teamwork) can improve outcomes. I'm grateful to the ASBrS, our task force, and my team for their support. #healthcare #patientsafety #healthcarequality

Good to see progress on single port robotic. History of MIS has been that of marriage of bold new surgical innovation & advances in surgical devices. In my opinion miniature robotics may well help surgeons be bold at pursuing better surgical access such extra peritoneal access for colorectal, gynae, urology even vascular surgeons
Ready to dive into the future of #miniRAS? Catch Virtual Incision’s CEO, John Murphy, speaking at DeviceTalks West in Santa Clara on October 16th. Discover our mission, the “why” behind Miniature Robotic-Assisted Surgery, and the latest breakthroughs. Register Now: https://bit.ly/3X18quM #DTWest24

Patient safety is paramount in healthcare, and its importance cannot be overstated when it comes to preventing sentinel incidents like retained foreign objects, wrong patient, and wrong site surgeries. By implementing and adhering to robust safety protocols, fostering a culture of accountability, ensuring clear communication among surgical teams, and prioritizing verification processes, we can significantly reduce the occurrence of these life-altering errors. Every step, from pre-operative verification to post-operative checks, should be meticulously followed to safeguard our patients. When every member of the healthcare team is committed and continue to prioritize patient safety, we create a safer environment that minimizes risks and improves outcomes. Let’s make patient safety our top priority to protect those who entrust us with their health and prevent these preventable errors. #PatientSafety #HealthcareQuality #SentinelEvents
In 2023, wrong patient, wrong procedure and wrong site surgeries, along with retention of foreign objects, topped the year's list of surgical sentinel events most frequently reported to The Joint Commission. Dr. Lenworth Jacobs, Professor of Surgery at the University of Connecticut in Farmington, and Director of the Trauma Institute at Hartford Hospital, Connecticut, and Joint Commission Board of Commissioners member, dives into the facts around these events in a new article for the American College of Surgeons Bulletin: https://lnkd.in/g-jnTg-g

Really pleased & proud to have published the VOLCANO trial in Langenbeck's Archives of Surgery, showing that open console robotic surgery reduces surgeon ergonomic risk during major colorectal resection. This is the first randomised controlled trial of open console robotic ergonomics (using CMR Surgical's #Versius system) and the first RCT from our research group at Milton Keynes University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust. Hopefully first of many more to come... Read the paper here: https://lnkd.in/e3HVe22d Headline findings: 🚶♀️Lower ergonomic risk (physical strain) 🤯 Lower cognitive strain 🗣 No impact on team communication 👩⚕️ No impact on patient outcomes or op times

Two of our articles on CAIRS for Keratoconus are ranked among the 8 most-read ever in the Journal of Refractive Surgery! The first one is a comprehensive segmental tomography evaluation of CAIRS results, and the second one is the first published report of All-Femto CAIRS (using asymmetric segments). Thank you Yara Bteich, Jad F. Assaf, Jeremiah Gendy, Soosan Jacob, Prof. Farhad Hafezi, MD, PhD, FARVO, Fabian Müller, & Anthony Abou Mrad. An amazing machine unlike any other surgical robot in the world! What we can do with the Intuitive #DaVinci #SinglePort system cannot be replicated by any other system today. Retroperitoneal, Extraperitoneal, and Transvesical surgery through incisions that are no bigger than required for extraction of the tumor or organ being removed. Reconstruction can be performed at the site of pathology rather than across the peritoneum. Furthermore patients benefit from safer positioning, faster recovery, faster discharge, and near elimination of risk of bowel complications. This technology has transformed my practice and will transform surgical care for Urology and other surgical specialties. The Future of Surgery is Now! SSM Health
Imagine a future of care that’s less invasive and profoundly better. We’ve been single-minded in our pursuit of this goal, delivering innovations such as Intuitive da Vinci SP—our first single-port surgical system. With da Vinci surgery now available through one small incision, surgeons can provide precise and effective care that is less invasive—helping get their patients back to what matters most. Surgeons are already harnessing the potential of da Vinci SP to help define the next era #MinimallyInvasiveCare, as together we help transform surgery-again. Learn more at https://lnkd.in/eJt9-V5m
