How to know how much a #startup should pay you? 3 ways 👇🏻 - wellfound.com/jobs (formerly AngelList Talent) is loaded with startup jobs, which often include salary and equity ranges. Screenshot or screenscrape the data, feed it to ChatGPT, and you'll have some directional guidance. - Any friends at medium to large #venturecapital firms? Ask them nicely - they often subscribe to services that benchmark compensation across a variety of startup roles. They can fairly easily take a cut of the data and give you the high level. - 3rd party recruiters will have a feel for comp bands in their specific competency area. I got hired in a remote job with less than 1 year of experience! Here’s how I did it: 1. Focused on what will make me happy - Defined the role that would make me happy and where I want to be in the next 5 years. - I searched for product roles only. 2. Targeted job search - Stopped applying to big companies (they want 3+ years of experience… like, seriously?). - Avoided roles where everyone else was applying. I didn’t want to be just another face in the crowd. - Applied to companies who always hunt for talent aka STARTUPS 3. Found Mentors - Connected with mentors working in startups to learn and get advice on the industry. 4. Took Bold Shots - Applied even if I didn’t fit all the criteria ~ long shots often work because not everyone takes them! - Sent authentic, personality-driven applications that showcased who I am. Skills were covered in detail on my resume. 5. Prepared & Followed Up - Followed up before the virtual interview to show my interest and enthusiasm. - (Too many interview tips to share here - I’ll cover those in upcoming posts and virtual meetups!) In Short: - Apply with strategy, not in volume. - Finding mentors is essential for growth and discovering opportunities. - Skills matter, but it's your personality that gets you hired.
