A client tried to poach one of my employees. 12 years back Back then, I was just starting my journey as a founder. My BP shot up, I couldn’t comprehend what to do, and I canceled all my meetings. With a small team and high stakes, it felt like a critical blow. I reacted impulsively. Fast forward to today—same situation, but a very different response. The stakes are higher than ever, yet - I didn’t react.  - My meetings stayed intact,  - my schedule remained unchanged. Over the years, I’ve learned that there are two common ways to handle such moments: 1. React with aggression – This often ruins your relationship with the employee. 2. Beg the employee to stay – This may seem like a quick fix but can erode your leadership and authority in the long run. This time, I chose a third path: Stay calm, let the situation cool, and approach the conversation later. Time gives perspective, and clarity paves the way for meaningful dialogue. Building a business is about playing the long game—and that includes how you handle challenges with your team. To all the founders and leaders out there: these situations will test you.
