By farming with nature in this way we can reduce inputs by designing the farm as an ecosystem that sustains itself with minimal outside influence. An example of this is the implementation of holistic planned grazing for cattle. Carefully managing the movement of cattle on pasture, allowing for periods of recovery for the pasture, allows our farmers to turn sunlight, air, and water into raise nutrient-dense beef." 🌿🐔Exciting news from our laboratory! We are thrilled to announce that the results of our recent experiment have exceeded our expectations. As you may recall, we conducted a study where we grew Black Soldier fly larvae on chicken manure. After sending the larvae to the lab for analysis, we have received confirmation that larvae grown on chicken manure can be safely used as feed for chickens. This innovative approach not only allows poultry farms to recycle chicken manure for free but also helps reduce costs on chicken feed. The Haul of Shame?? I was on farm yesterday, and I had the chance to unpack this headline with two generations of farmers, a father and son. It says a lot about how our farmers feel right now The sense that farming is a gamble. The recognition that global market forces are forcing consolidation The understanding that small farms are becoming less viable Farmers with on farm storage (bins) can hold their crop Meaning they can try to sell when commodity markets are at peak But making that call creates so much pressure From regenerative agriculture, to food industry certifications to new crops We talked about all the things The willingness to move beyond commodity if there’s a path to profitability This farm is in the process of being passed from father to son The pride in building the operation was palpable As was the desire to preserve it and the land for future generations It’s clear that farming is at an inflection point Change pivots on consumer demand There’s big opportunity for food brands to lead What do you think? What goes into agriculture is so much more than what we give farmers… and all and all areas of agriculture… credit for. Part of being a “good Dad” to me is being educated - especially when it comes to food, health and what goes into making our province strong. When I was asked to host the AgMatters podcast I jumped at the free education. I talk with incredible people who’s life revolves around Agriculture.
