Morning Ride to #BieseeBeach 🚴 Today’s cycling session to Biesee Beach and back got me thinking about how a low-turnout marathon reminded me of the challenges startups face. Not all marathons or startups succeed, and the reasons often overlap: ✅ Core Strength: Success depends heavily on the organizers’ expertise—whether in running or technical business skills. ✅ Strategy: Themes, marketing, and sponsorships play a huge role in marathons, just like angel investors and strategic planning do for startups. To all the marathon organizers and startup founders out there—here’s wishing you the best! Focus on the fundamentals and keep striving for success. 💪 #businessSuccess #Learnew

As someone who has run long distance races (although I don’t like to talk about it 🤣) and launched startups, I've discovered some powerful parallels between these two journeys. Here are a few insights to consider: 1. **Training & Preparation:** Just like training for a marathon, launching a startup requires meticulous planning, preparation, and dedication. Both endeavors demand a strong mindset, discipline, and consistent effort over time. 2. **Endurance & Persistence:** Running 26.2 miles tests your physical and mental endurance. Similarly, building a startup tests your resilience and persistence in the face of challenges, setbacks, and uncertainties. Success often goes to those who can keep going when the going gets tough. 3. **Setting Goals:** In marathons, you set specific goals like finishing under a certain time or completing the race without stopping. Similarly, in startups, you set milestones and objectives, whether it's reaching a revenue target, securing funding, or launching a new product/service. 4. **Teamwork & Support:** While marathons can be a solo endeavor, having a support system of fellow runners, coaches, and spectators can make a huge difference. Likewise, building a startup requires a strong team, mentors, advisors, and a supportive network to help you navigate challenges and celebrate successes. 5. **Celebrating Milestones:** Crossing the marathon finish line or achieving key milestones in your startup journey are moments of triumph. It's important to celebrate these victories, acknowledge your progress, and use them as motivation to keep pushing forward. Whether you're a seasoned entrepreneur or just starting your journey, remember that both running marathons and building startups are about the long haul. Embrace the challenges, stay focused on your goals, and enjoy the journey of growth and achievement. 🌟 #MarathonsAndStartups #EntrepreneurialJourney #StayFocused

Building a successful company is a marathon, not a sprint. We’ve just crossed our halfway point—both in business and in the Copenhagen Half Marathon last weekend! After four years of trying, failing, and learning, we’ve successfully completed our startup phase. We now have paying customers, and we’re proud to say we’re still self-funded. Just like a marathoner at 21km, we didn’t finish the race as the fastest runners. But we’ve built the resilience needed to finish, and that's what counts. The next phase is our scaling phase, where we’ll improve in speed, strength, and height. We’re ready for the full marathon of building a global product. Let’s keep moving forward. 🏃♂️💪 #StartupJourney #ScalingPhase #HalfMarathon

It's a challenge to build startups during the short summers of Nordics. You know you have to move fast. Yet, your clients are on holiday and so are the investors and advisors. You would like to switch off too, but you are infected. You understand it latest at the point when you climb onto a paddle board. Your mind starts to think how similar it is to building a startup: 🏄♂️ Finding Your Balance 🏄♀️ Navigating Waves 🏄♂️ Paddling Forward 🏄♀️ Enjoying the Ride See you in the office! 🚣♂️ Exploring the Start-up Journey Through Olympic Sports In the world of start-ups repetition, strategy, agility, and resilience are paramount. It is somewhat analogous to Olympic sports. Here's an example: I'll explain how Canoe Slalom mirrors the start-up experience. - In Canoe Slalom, you're propelled forward by current => this is like the market forces in business. - Movement is inevitable => yet not always straightforward and sometimes you have to move against the tides. - Sometimes, to navigate effectively, you might find yourself paddling backwards, reversing, riding a wave or taking unconventional routes. - Missed a gate? That's a lost client, broken partnership, any setbacks or bad decision in business. But penalties aren't always fatal so long as you recalibrate and stay on course. 🥇 🤔 What's the Olympic sporting analogy for start-ups you've heard or conceived? #StartUps #Olympics #Entrepreneurship #BusinessStrategy #CanoeSlalom

Excited to have my guest opinion piece published in Fast Company! (Yes, I wrote a piece about entrepreneurs running marathons.) This piece is deeply personal to me. It shares how my own startup founder experience led me to pursue an extreme endurance practice; what my absolute worst marathon run taught me about VCs; and the life-changing lessons I learned from long-distance running that can hopefully help startup founders deep in the throes of it today survive this year. Read it. Let me know what you think. Share it with a startup founder who could use it right now. https://lnkd.in/dz39ft65 Mensch Capital Partners #fastcompany

The Innovation Marathon. Imagine embarking on a journey where the path isn't just long; it's filled with hurdles, unexpected turns, and moments where the only way forward seems to be through sheer will. Building a startup isn't akin to a swift sprint where speed is king; it's an enduring marathon where strategy, endurance, and resilience reign supreme. In this marathon: Pace Yourself: Understand that burnout is the nemesis of innovation. Like a seasoned runner, find your rhythm. Sustainable progress beats short bursts of speed that lead to exhaustion. Celebrate Small Victories: Every mile marker passed is a victory. Whether it's your first customer, a successful pitch, or a product iteration, these moments are your energy gels, fueling you for the miles ahead. Keep Your Eyes on the Horizon: The finish line might be out of sight, but your vision for your startup isn't. Let this vision pull you forward, even when the legs feel heavy, and the path steepens. Embrace Each Race as a New Beginning: Crossing one finish line only means you're ready to start another race. In the startup world, each achievement opens the door to new challenges, new markets, and new innovations. Remember, in this marathon, you're not just running against competitors; you're racing against time, market changes, and sometimes, against your own doubts. But here's the thing about marathon runners - they know that every step taken is a step towards greatness, towards a legacy. So, tie your laces tight, keep hydrated with knowledge, and run with the heart of an entrepreneur. Your race doesn't end at the first finish line; it evolves. Here's to the long run, to the hurdles we jump, and to the horizons we chase. #MarathonNotASprint #KeepRunning #InnovationJourney #StartupLife #EnduranceEntrepreneur #VisionaryRacer #BusinessMarathon #InnovateEndureAchieve
