Some of the best advice a CEO/Director gave me was to focus on my outputs and stop chasing promotions, titles, and accolades. When you focus on the real goal, all those things will fall in place. Even when you see others around you being promoted and advancing just be patient and wait your turn. Life will surely unveil what is meant for you #alwaysfocusonyourfocus

Congratulations on your recent promotion, future executive! This has been a long time a-comin’, hasn’t it? And the emotional roller coaster! 😁 Pumped = I was made for this! I’ve worked my a$$ off to get here. I deserve this. 🤔 Uncertainty = Wait! What’s this gonna be like? Am I really prepared for this opportunity? 😨 Scared sh*tless = I’m not prepared. I’m not getting the support I need. I don’t want to fail! It’s rough, ain’t it? I mean, you fought for this place and whatever lack of confidence you encountered you were able to avoid addressing because you had leaders to rely on. You were at the bottom of the totem pole. But now? Junior employees are gonna be looking to you, and the excitement is turning to uncertainty and then to anxiety. I get it. I remember getting promoted back in my corporate days and feeling so unsupported and ill-prepared for leading a team of people. And then they wanted to do performance reviews. It was like "What the hell?!" You’re not the first person this has happened to. And you won’t be the last. Here’s an opportunity → Let’s talk. You need your first 90 days to count, and it all begins with a really courageous conversation. From there, you’ll ✅ Go through an assessment ✅ Get a customized game plan ✅ Receive the leadership support It’s exactly what you need to crush it. Not tomorrow. Now.

When you want to get on in your career, do you just focus on doing a good job in the hope you'll get noticed? How’s that working for you?! In early career it’s relatively easy to stand out by being a top performer. But as you move on and up, performance becomes a smaller and smaller part of the picture In fact the PIE theory of career success would put it as low as 10%. Which tends to blow people’s minds when I share that 🤯 That doesn’t mean you don’t need to worry about performance - just that it’s more of a qualifier than a differentiator The rest of the story? Well about 30% is your reputation - what people say about you when you're not in the room. And the remaining 60% is exposure - how many people know about you and your brilliant work. If you’re serious about moving on in your leadership career, you’re going to need to stop waiting to be noticed and start considering how you can make sure your personal leadership brand is a valuable one Fancy learning how to do this in a way that feels authentic? Drop me a DM. Let's chat about how we can get more people to know the brilliant you that your close colleagues already see.

🚫 You're doing it wrong - Getting Promoted edition 👑 👑 👑 Hard truth - Being great at your job won't get you promoted. In fact - Your exceptional performance might be exactly what's keeping you stuck! Think about it... Your company already has exactly what they want! A high-performing employee! They're paying you for that role, and you're delivering exactly what they hired you for. So why would they change that? Most high-performers who can't get ahead make three critical mistakes: 1 - Assuming their boss knows all the value they've created 2 - Not knowing how to get recognized as a leader 3 - Thinking tenure or consistently exceeding metrics will automatically lead to promotion 🤫 Here's what nobody tells you: You're looking at it from the wrong perspective... 👉 Getting promoted has nothing to do with what you think you deserve. It's a BUSINESS DECISION. And proving it's the RIGHT business decision for your company can be broken down into three simple steps. Can’t seem to get promoted? Maybe you’re out of the range of acceptability… ⚽️Ever watched 3 year-olds play soccer? They basically all follow the ball. It’s what’s acceptable for a 3-year old. 🥅 At 6, following the ball around the field is no longer acceptable. You have to kick the ball. 🏟️Eventually, to become a pro you’ll be expected to own your post (keeper, defender, forwards or midfielder), to play as a team, to think of the game strategically…etc. (Ok that’s the limit of my soccer knowledge 🤭) But following the ball like a 3 year old or kicking the ball around the field like a 6 year old will definitely not be acceptable at a pro level. Well, same goes for your career. You started by learning the ropes, executing tasks you were given. You get good at it, and it gets you to the next level. But then what got you the promotion is no longer acceptable to perform at this new level. And eventually you reach a senior leadership role and the shift becomes a lot more challenging to adjust to. Yet, your only way up is to continuously upgrade your skillset to master the art of extraordinary success. If you’ve felt stuck in the same place for a while, if you’ve been waiting for your promotion, if you’ve found it hard to get interviews for roles you’re absolutely certain you could do… …maybe it’s time to reevaluate where you stand in the range of acceptability. What are 2 things you can do to get started? 1️⃣Ask your leaders and their peers for constructive feedback to help you grow professionally. 2️⃣Consider a free diagnostic call with me to assess your next best moves to get unstuck. What got you here won’t get you there 😉 With love, Caroline —— Hi 👋 I’m Caroline, I help you achieve and thrive. Book a FREE diagnostic call: https://lnkd.in/eexWfGzx

Managers are not mind readers. My client Saly got finally promoted after 5 years. Saly is an expert in her domain and she thought that doing a great work would be enough for her to be recognized. She missed promotions that she thought would be given to her due to her great results. When she reached out to me, we set up a plan to make her contributions visible. Saly learnt how to show the value she brought to her organization by taking these 3 steps: 1. Quantify her impact with numbers whenever possible. 2. Set up regular one-on-one meetings to share her achievements and get feedbacks. 3. Show how her work directly aligns with the company’s goals by solving critical challenges. Saly communicated about her goals and made it clear she wanted to take more responsibility, lead a team and advance in her career. Her boss was surprised, he thought Saly was happy in her role, as an expert. When a new opportunity opened up, Saly was finally the one to be promoted. Don’t assume your manager knows what you want. Clearly communicate about your goals. Repost to help someone Follow Fatou Seck Mathon for more

Do you want to tell your supervisor that you're ready for 'next' but don't know how? By creating value throughout the conversation. Here's a quick example template of how to do exactly that: I’ve been thinking about my goals – and our team’s success. (Mutual Value) We’ve crushed every target this quarter. (We Win) You need someone to lead the next stage. (You Win) With my track record, I'm ready to drive even bigger results. (Mutual Value) I want to take on more responsibility. (You Win) And I have ideas to improve our process. (We Win) By stepping up, I can help the team continue excelling. (We Win) And take key objectives off your plate. (You Win) I’m committed to adding value beyond my role. (Ask) My growth aligns with the company’s needs. (We Win) With an expanded title and compensation. (I Win) Let’s discuss how I can keep driving outcomes in an elevated position. (We Win) By framing up the conversation by centering it around past success and future wins for your leader and organization, it pivots the conversation away from just an ask for a promotion and repositions it as a way for everyone to benefit from your elevation. PS. What's worked for you in the past when seeking a promotion? Share your experience with asking for 'next' in the comments below!
