We manage all of our own properties. It is one of the biggest challenges in our business. Responding to urgent fire drills at properties. Hiring and firing vendors. Dealing with customer issues. Building out contractor solutions for businesses is what I have loved doing over the years. No matter what the size of the project the process has always been the same for me. Step 1 Understand what needs to be delivered, how it is to be delivered, and the IMPACT of not delivering on time. Step 2 Find flexibility on rates, location, hours, duration and interview process. This helps open up the talent pool available, and a slick interview process. Ideally 1 stage, immediate notice in the first week on the contract to add a bit of protection. Step 3 Go straight to my trusted and verified network. Agree all commercials upfront. This is then locked in. (None of this last minute negotiation, that gives me red flags and that person will be out) Step 4 Present the options, and have a phone conversation about them. Book the interviews in, Offer and get contracts raised Step 5 Weekly check in with all contractors. Take the time to understand how things are going based on the information I collected in STEP 1. Feedback any issues or concerns to the hiring manager. Supporting contractor growth is the best part of recruitment in my opinion. It is about building relationships, building trust with contractors and being part of the process of delivering projects. Who else loves a contractor solution?
