What is objectivity in science? 🤔 Why should we care about the philosophy of science, especially when it comes to #biodiversity and #ClimateChange? 🍃 What does it tell us about values and ethics in science? ♥️🧭 Send us your 🔥 burning questions🔥for philosophy of science researcher Dr. Aleta Quinn by 12 pm ET on Apr 15 to be featured in our video coming out on #EarthDay 👀 ➡️https://lnkd.in/edjE3cEH ✨More about Dr. Aleta Quinn✨ A Fulbright Canada Research Chair in Science and Society, Dr. Quinn researches the relationships among science, social values and objectivity, more specifically related to biodiversity and distinct forms of citizen science. Views that separate science from social policy and social values are no longer useful. We need new understandings to illustrate the impact of how we value science on scientific questions.

Yesterday, Minister for Industry and Science Ed Husic MP and Chief Scientist Dr Cathy Foley released Australia’s new National Science Statement, alongside five new cross-disciplinary priorities, positioning science as a fundamental pillar of the Government’s Future Made in Australia strategy. The new priorities, which will steer government, university and the private sector research efforts, are: transitioning to a net zero future; supporting healthy and thriving communities; elevating First Australians’ knowledge systems; protecting and restoring Australia’s environment; and building a secure and resilient nation. Minister Husic pointed that the Government "wants science to drive industry growth, creating stronger businesses and more secure, well-paid jobs for Australians." And Dr Cathy Foley highlighted that “Science is at the heart of almost every aspect of our lives, and is especially important as we tackle today’s challenges. “These priorities are a great starting point, and I hope we can come together as a science and research community with industry and government to bring them to life.” Find out more Australia's National Science and Research Priorities here: https://lnkd.in/gYDFx9DS

𝟲𝘁𝗵 𝗘𝘂𝗿𝗼𝗽𝗲𝗮𝗻 𝗡𝗲𝗼-𝗖𝗮𝗹𝘃𝗶𝗻𝗶𝘀𝗺 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝗳𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟰 𝗼𝗻 ‘𝗡𝗲𝗼-𝗖𝗮𝗹𝘃𝗶𝗻𝗶𝘀𝗺 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗖𝗮𝗽𝗶𝘁𝗮𝗹𝗶𝘀𝗺’ 𝘈𝘶𝘨𝘶𝘴𝘵 𝟤𝟫-𝟥𝟢 This conference is devoted to the engagement of Neo-Calvinism with modern capitalism. This relationship will be explored from several perspectives. Firstly historically, the rise and development of Neo-Calvinist socio-economic thought—roughly from “Groen to Goudzwaard,” but also in its international transmission in the 20th and 21st century—will be considered. Secondly philosophically and theologically, the question will be addressed how Neo-Calvinist thought on these issues should be evaluated. What is its use for contemporary challenges such as increasing inequality and climate change? About twenty presenters from institutions all over the world will present a short paper on a wide array of topics related to the conference theme.
