Rather than focus on a border crisis we should focus on border solutions through a comprehensive inclusionary restoration plan along our southern border. The TJ river is a prime example of this and so too is the the Tres Mares / Three Seas development(s) https://lnkd.in/gHyKc5KQ

Unpacking the Kavango Zambezi Transfrontier Conservation Area - KAZA TFCA. Been making a reflection on the recently held KAZA Heads of States Summit and made few observations. As we continue unpacking the proceedings of the Summit. Some key points about the Kavango Zambezi Transfrontier Conservation Area - KAZA TFCA that you may need to know: The KAZA TFCA was established to: * Conserve the shared natural resources and cultural heritage of this vast area of southern Africa; * Promote and facilitate the development of a complementary and linked network of protected areas that protect wildlife and provide and restore dispersal corridors and migratory routes; * Develop the KAZA TFCA into a world-class tourism destination offering a variety of breathtaking adventures and luxurious relaxation; * Promote the free and easy movement of tourists across borders; * Implement programmes that ensure the sustainable use of natural resources in ways that improve the livelihoods of communities and reduce poverty in the region; * Harmonise conservation legislation and natural resource management of the TFCA. Overview of the Kavango Zambezi Transfrontier Conservation Area - KAZA TFCA https://lnkd.in/dKuYcjNc As you reflect on the above, lets take time to evaluate how we have fared in realisation of the above. What have we done well and which areas need further improvement? #RegionalTourism #RegionalIntegration #Conservation #SustainableTourism #VisitZimbabwe

💪Act now to #FreePaulWatson and #SaveOurOceans. Together, we can make a difference for marine conservation! 🐳 🐋 Captain Paul Watson, founder of Sea Shepherd Global, has been arrested. If Denmark extradites him to 𝗝𝗮𝗽𝗮𝗻, it could end a critical chapter 𝗺𝗮𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗲 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘀𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗖𝗮𝗽𝗶𝘁𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗲'𝘀 𝗹𝗶𝗳𝗲. Watson and his crew have tirelessly battled illegal fishing and whaling, especially targeting Japanese fleets. Their efforts have saved an estimated 𝟱,𝟬𝟬𝟬 whales and other species*. He was arrested in Greenland by Danish authorities 𝟭𝟱 days ago and remains in detention. Japan requested his extradition 𝟰 days ago*. 🌍4 Burning Questions: 🐳How Whales Are Protected? ⛩ Why Does Japan Want Paul Watson So Desperately? ⛵ Why is Denmark Involved? 🙌 What Can We Do to Help? 1) Are Whales Protected? 🐳 The Commission Baleinière Internationale (IWC) regulates whaling and protects endangered species. In 1986, a global moratorium on 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗺𝗲𝗿𝗰𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝘄𝗵𝗮𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴 was enacted. Japan exploited a loophole for "scientific whaling," leading to significant whale deaths. In 2014, the International Court of Justice declared Japan's Antarctic whaling program illegal, but Japan resumed whaling after withdrawing from IWC jurisdiction in 2019 in their territorial zone*. Currently, only 𝗝𝗮𝗽𝗮𝗻, 𝗡𝗼𝗿𝘄𝗮𝘆, and 𝗜𝗰𝗲𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗱 continue commercial whaling.☠🐳 2) Why Does Japan Want Paul Watson So Desperately?⛩ Since 2006, he has 𝗱𝗶𝘀𝗿𝘂𝗽𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗴𝗮𝗹 𝘄𝗵𝗮𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴 operations, enforcing international agreements where governments have failed. Japan’s whaling industry relies on government support and needs to meet quotas to be profitable. His actions have significantly hindered this. Despite declining domestic consumption of whale meat Japan defends whaling as an “ancestral tradition.”* In May 2024, Japan launched the Kangei Maru, a $𝟰𝟴 𝗺𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗶𝗼𝗻 whaling vessel*, which Watson vowed to chase to end its activities. 🛳 3) Why is Denmark Involved?⛵ Watson's arrest in Greenland, a Danish territory, came shortly after he targeted Japanese whalers. The timing raises questions about political pressures, especially considering Denmark's controversial whaling practices in the Faroe Islands for the sake of another ancestral tradition called the "𝗴𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗱" (bad habits, how they cling to us 🤷♂️ ) , where 𝗵𝘂𝗻𝗱𝗿𝗲𝗱𝘀 of whales and dolphins are killed annually. Sea Shepherd exposed these practices just a week before his arrest, which could explain Denmark's cooperation with Japan. 4) What Can We Do to Help? 🙌 𝗦𝗶𝗴𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗣𝗲𝘁𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 in Fr/Eng: Stand with Sea Shepherd France. Every signature sends a strong message to Denmark governement. It take less than 1 min 👉 https://lnkd.in/eEQe6Qqj 𝗥𝗮𝗶𝘀𝗲 𝗔𝘄𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀: Share this post to sensibilize Paul Watson’s mission. all the sources are on the 1st comment* #FreePaulWatson

A reminder from Pacific Ocean Commissioner, Dr. Filimon Manoni that conversations on ocean conservation and policy must not be limited to formality. We must speak openly, frequently and intentionally in our communities and homes about the ocean that heals and sustains us. We must remind our children of who they are, and the impact their decisions and actions will have on who they will be. In doing so, let us also remind ourselves, that our relationship with the ocean is not meant to be one sided. And as we must be attuned to the child, we must be attuned to our blue planet and respond with equal love and decisiveness. #worldoceanday #marineconservation #maritimepolicy #marinespatialplanning #blueeconomy #pacificislands
Pacific Ocean Commissioner Dr Filimon Manoni was in Vanuatu this week where they launched their revitalised #ocean policy. For this #WorldOceansDay, Dr Manoni pleads that we look into the eyes of our children and grandchildren to understand the magnitude of our duty and responsibility to leave behind an ocean that's in a far better state.
Happy World Ocean Day from Pacific Ocean Commissioner Dr Filimon Manoni

In Brindisi, approximately 150 cabins on the former Costa Magica cruise ship, now owned by Mykonos Magic and slated to be rebranded as the "Goddess of the Night" for #NeonyxCruises, have been deemed unfit for use. This decision has sparked protests from law enforcement unions, who criticized the conditions aboard the vessel intended to house officers during the G7 summit. The #FSPPolizia described the accommodations as "surreal and shameful," citing issues such as malfunctioning air conditioning, unusable bathrooms, non-working showers with dirty, cold water, and foul-smelling rooms. The #Siap union called the situation "unbearable," requesting immediate relocation to alternative facilities. Antonio Tarallo, National Secretary of the #USIC, lamented the hygienic conditions, comparing them unfavorably to those in migrant hotspots, while the #Siulp union noted water leaks, debris from air conditioning units, and broken air conditioning in central cabins. The #SimGdf union expressed frustration over the lack of adequate preparations. The Prefecture of Brindisi has initiated a search for alternative accommodations in nearby provinces, ensuring that personnel will only be deployed once the situation is resolved. The respective commands and unions have been informed of all ongoing measures. #CostaMagica #MykonosMagic #GoddesOfTheNight #BrindisiG7 #PoliceUnions #LawEnforcementHousing #G7Security #G7Italy #G7Preparation #G7Logistics

In the heart of Europe, where the Netherlands and Belgium converge, lies the peculiar town of Baarle. Divided into Baarle-Nassau (Dutch) and Baarle-Hertog (Belgian), this town of just under 10,000 people is a living testament to the European Union’s complexity and paradoxical nature. A Patchwork of Borders The international border crisscrosses through Baarle, marked by white crosses on the pavement, sometimes bisecting buildings, including the town hall. This division results in 22 Belgian enclaves within Dutch territory and six Dutch counter-enclaves within these Belgian enclaves. The result is a patchwork quilt effect on maps, with the border snaking haphazardly around the town. Read the full article in the link below https://lnkd.in/e7bHjEGY

This #WorldEnvironmentDay2024 we're excited to share the spotlight from CNN Inside Africa, featuring one of our member community conservancies, Sera. Home to 21 black rhinos and four recently translocated white rhinos, Sera Wildlife Conservancy's collaboration through our partners like EarthRanger Kenya Wildlife Service KWS The Lewa Wildlife Conservancy and Connected Conservation Foundation showcases the innovative use of technology in protecting endangered animals. In northern Kenya, where 70% of rangelands suffer from degradation, we’re addressing worrying challenges through our community conservancy model including wildlife translocations to support biodiversity, use of innovative solutions like reseeding (semi-circular bunds) and the Northern Kenya Rangelands Carbon Project—the world’s largest soil carbon removal initiative. These practices are not only ensuring sufficient pasture for our wildlife and livestock but are also combating climate change. In case you missed it, here's for a recap of the CNN Inside Africa episode covering the remarkable translocation of white rhinos to NRT’s member community conservancy, Sera. https://lnkd.in/dHjfJJ7k
