Traditional sales is dying, imho. AI, automation, and the vast amount of emails we all get is slowly going to eat away at how effective cold outreach is. Now, it won't ever fully die. You'll always be able to pick up the phone and dial someone. And you should. But we also need to get smarter. Currently, I'm experimenting a ton. Doing a lot with lemlist, Surfe, and Taplio - which isn't all that novel. Working on getting RB2B up and running. Have experimented with Clay a bit. But I think the point stands - if you're in GTM, you need to be adapting to this landscape. How we get in front of folks is changing rapidly. Doing my best to keep up. What am I missing?

I've been building out an offer suite around this. I'm calling it marketing implementation. A few reasons for this... 1) A lot of people have the strategy but don't know how to piece it all together. 2) It's an immediate, "Oh! I get it!" 3) It's sort of all the pieces marketing. It's more than just GTM. It's maintenance, the elimination of tech-debt, and the implementation of new strategies as they evolve and develop. Agree or disagree?

Yes! The drum’s been beating for technically capable sales people for a while, but Kyle Poyar nails it with this post in terms of the new scope needed. My only caveat is to not forget about the S-curve of tech adoption in relation to industries beyond Tech or the scale-up space! In #cpg your tech capacity may just be analytics or data visualization technology, in others maybe it’s just adopting a (relatively) simple crm for the first time.

Tomorrow's next hot GTM hire won't be an AE, SDR, demand gen person or content marketer. It'll be a GTM/growth ops owner. Someone who's more comfortable in Clay than they are in Salesforce. Someone who's favorite TLA is ICP rather than MQL. They'll not only know about the next-gen GTM tech stack (Keyplay, Unify, 11x, Warmly, RB2B, Champify, Apollo, lempire, etc). They'll own the overall buyer journey from identifying the right ICP to building ICP pipeline and converting pipeline into revenue. And they'll run experiments to find the best possible way to turn ICP accounts into $$. It won't matter whether that's through AI, DIY automation, off-the-shelf tooling, product experiences, outside vendors, paid programs or good ole fashioned sales people. What matters is that it works and is cost effective. - Orchestrates a unified buying journey - Runs rapid experiments across that journey - Equally as comfortable with spreadsheets as with creative ideation - Well-versed in the latest technology & automation - Able to influence other leaders across functions (including the CEO) The hard part: what are we calling these folks? I've seen: growth engineer, chief of staff, head of growth, GTM ops, RevOps, special projects. Marketers looovveee to rebrand themselves. Remember when a "growth marketer" did things that weren't paid media?! 🙄 I've been a "content marketer" a "growth marketer" an " inbound lead" a "lifecycle marketer" and a "product marketer." I do "GTM" and "acquisition" and "demand gen" and "marketing strategy" "CRO" "funnel marketing" There's some variation in each of these (obviously), but everyone's just circling the drain trying to name what actually grows startups these days. Thank you to Kyle Poyar for naming the new trend. It's helpful and I'll use it in my copy...as I keep doing Marketing for Startups-whatever we decide to call it.

Someone who's a lot like I was early in my sales career: - Hungry to learn, improve, win and help - Entrepreneurial - Relentless, resourceful, and creative The top of our funnel is too much for me to handle part-time (I wear a lot of hats). Too many opportunities are falling through the cracks, and we need someone to help us level up here. Our product has never been better, and we have some new products on the way. We have net-negative churn, and every growth metric is at an all-time high. We're launching a re-brand and new website by the end of the year. The timing is right. This person needs to have SaaS or adtech sales experience. I'd love for this person to be based in North America, but I'm not opposed to hiring outside of that geo (we have people in the US, Brazil, Portugal, and the Philippines). This will likely not be a fit for a Mid-level or a Senior AE (ie. people with 5+ years of experience). DM me if you're interested or know anyone who might be.
