The world’s greatest kindergarten teacher is Ms. Mannall from John Glenn Elementary School in Donahue, Iowa. Why is she the greatest? She has mastered the art and science of teaching practice. She knows how brain development influences pedagogy. Look around her classroom, and you will see students engaged in fun learning activities appropriate for their development. She understands classroom culture, moving about the classroom like a maestro conductor. Her physical presence maintains a learning environment without squelching kindergartners’ natural exuberance. And she’s kind, listening to each student, treating their questions with respect, and gently but firmly guiding them toward learning with love. The children are learning this behavior. Kindergartners solve problems with one another, apologize when necessary and show respect as they take turns and help one another learn. It's obvious by the feel in the room that these children know Ms. Mannall cares about them deeply and that they are doing important, meaningful work together. She makes teaching look easy despite it being one of the most difficult of human experiences. Ms. Mannall was able to become competent and confident as a teacher because of critical supports she had in place as a new teacher - much of it by pure luck. We cannot leave this kind of mastery to chance. That’s why we created ELP. The Similarities between the Reggio Emilia and the Project Approach To be able to describe the similarities between the Reggio Emilia and the Project Approach firstly we must define what they are. The Reggio Emilia Approach originated in the town of Reggio Amelia, Italy in 1945 by Loris Malaguzzi and it is broken down into three concepts the most important being respect for the child, emphasizing building relationships, and power of the learning environment. Malaguzzi believed that children are capable students who generate what they learn from their peers, learning environment, and teachers. He emphasized children’s curiosity and natural ability through hands-on learning. The Project Approach was created by John Dewey in 1916 and was designed for kids to learn how to participate and contribute to society. It is a classroom approach designed to help students shift away from being passive learners to active and “learning by doing” so they may get a more in-depth learning experience with a focus on real-world problems.  So what are the similarities between the two approaches? They both emphasize on hands-on learning and how important children are in their education. They both believe in child-centered learning, Dewey believed education should focus on what interests children, and learning through doing Malaguzzi encourages children to explore their interests and ideas. They both believed in active participation. Both approaches also focus on learning through experiences Dewey believed children learn best through real-world experiences, while Malaguzzi had children explore and interact with their enviornment. Lastly, they both emphasized teachers as guides. Dewey viewed teachers as someone to help and guide students to explore problems and Malaguzzi viewed teachers as someone to support the learning process and document it as well.

The learning environment shapes a child’s entire learning journey. These spaces help with academics, social-emotional development, and building relationships. Ontario Students 2024 Graduation Requirements In 2024, OSSD requirements cover credit distribution, literacy, online education, and community service for graduation. The high school curriculum and graduation standards in Ontario have changed significantly in the last few years. Requirements such as de-streaming courses, changes to literacy and community service requirements, and more need parents and students to be notified. To ensure clarity on successfully finishing high school, this blog summarizes the prerequisites for the Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD). Credits Required To graduate from Ontario’s schools, a student needs to accumulate thirty credits, usually from Grades 9 through 12. Of them, twelve are elective credits chosen based on the student’s interests and goals for post-secondary education, and the remaining eighteen are required courses. Compulsory Credits Let’s break down the compulsory credit requirements: 4 credits in English (1 credit per grade) 3 credits in mathematics (at least 1 credit in Grade 11 or 12) 3 credits in group 1, 2, and 3 courses (1 credit in each group) 2 credits in science 1 credit in Canadian history (Grade 10) 1 credit in Canadian geography (Grade 9) 1 credit in the arts 1 credit in health and physical education 1 credit in French as a second language 0.5 credit in career studies 0.5 credit in civics and citizenship Optional Credits Students must complete 12 optional credits in addition to their required credits, choosing courses depending on their interests, availability, and post-secondary goals. Ontario's Literacy requirements The Ontario Literacy Requirement has been reintroduced after being waived in the past because of COVID-19. The Ontario Literacy Course (OLC4) or the Ontario Secondary School Literacy Test (OSSLT) are the two options available to students to meet this requirement. Online education prerequisite Students must obtain two high school credits online beginning with the 2020–2021 academic year. The goal of these credits, which might be optional or required, is to help students improve their digital literacy. Hours of Community Involvement Between Grades 9 and 12, students must perform 40 hours of community service. These hours promote social responsibility and community involvement. There are many other ways to volunteer, such as coaching sports, helping the elderly, fundraising, working on environmental projects, and more. If you have any question how to apply through OUAC?
