After three days in San Diego at ASU+GSV Summit for dozens of scheduled meetings, dozens more organic discussions, and a handful of panels, demos, and dinners, I plan to share a few thoughts as I realize/synthesize them in my head and with friends and clients over the next few days. To the extent these musings create further discussion in the comments, it would also be awesome to hear everyone’s thoughts and reflections. -- I'll post the second one tomorrow.

1) The first key takeaway is the shifting dynamics between companies serving higher education. Over the past decade, there was a palpable atmosphere of ruthless competition between edtech companies, driven perhaps by the pursuit of growth for investors. The current landscape still harbors a competitive spirit, but it's now focused less on competing with each other and more on competing against macro-market dynamics to achieve the best outcomes through friendly collaboration, sharing knowledge, and integrated service offerings. And all done to meet better the needs of higher education institutions and their students. Previously, Online Program Managers (OPMs) were the fiercest competitors; now, it's evident that those days have passed. It's time to bridge gaps and sort things out together.
