South Africa Must Adapt To Low Carbon Economy To Thrive In Renewable Energy Market Gerhard Fourie, the Chief Director of Green Industries at the Department of Trade, Industry, and Competition (dtic), has stressed the urgent need for South Africa to transition towards a low carbon-intensive economy to avoid severe repercussions. Speaking at the Competition Commission’s Blue-Bag Media Information Session on Renewable Energy in Pretoria today, Fourie warned that South Africa’s continued reliance on a high-carbon economy could lead to isolation from major trading partners.
