One of the most critical challenges of our time is providing reliable energy to more than 500 million people in Africa who still lack access to electricity—a problem that Bboxx exists to solve. It was an inspiring week at the #GOGLA Forum in Nairobi alongside Amaury Franklin Fastenakels, our CCO, Susan Odaya Odipo, Bernard Mucui, and Vincent Koech among other peers in the industry, all united by the shared goal of shaping Africa’s future by driving universal electricity access and building climate resilience. Here are some of my takeaways from the forum: 🔌 Off-grid solar energy remains the most cost-effective solution for providing electricity to those who still lack reliable access in Africa. With Africa’s population projected to double by 2050, primarily consisting of young people, the demand for innovative renewable energy solutions is expected to increase significantly. 🌞 Given Africa's crucial role in addressing climate change, thanks to its youthful population and abundant renewable energy resources, there is an urgent need for increased support, especially in the form of funding, to scale these solutions and achieve universal energy access. Innovative financing mechanisms, such as local currency debt financing and Results-Based Financing (RBF), can help unlock the capital required to scale off-grid projects on the continent. 🌱 It was inspiring to witness innovations in the sector, including solutions for the productive use of solar energy, such as energy-efficient farming equipment. These technologies empower communities, particularly women and young people, to become more self-sufficient and more resilient to the effects of climate change. The future is bright where there is more support ▶ more capital ▶ more energy access for millions across Africa. 🌍 #EnergyAccess #OffGrid #GOGSFE24 #UniversalElectrification

Some sharp eyes might have spot a new kid at the Global Off Grid Solar Forum and Expo in Nairobi! Walking around the expo, I met inspiring innovators that use the internet of things to advance solar technology for cold storage, international agencies that design new financing models, research centres that showcase low cost solutions for emerging markets. I couldn't help to notice how most people approach the complex challenge of energy transition with a tech-driven solution. My observation point is Kenya and from here, the challenges seem to be mostly around fairness and access. We need to talk about who is going to lead and drive the energy transition in Africa? Who is going to invest on #greenleaders? If you work in this space, come and have a chat with me! #GOGSFE24 Wasafiri #systemthinking #systemleadership #complexity

I recently attended the GOGLA 2024 Conference in Nairobi, marking my first visit to East Africa. The conference provided deep insights into off-grid solar solutions and the coordinated global efforts in electrifying emerging markets. Here are my key takeaways from the 3-day event: 📽 Projects drive regulation, even in the highly regulated energy sector. A panel featuring the Rural Electrification Agency of Nigeria highlighted how private sector projects can influence and reshape regulations, fostering an environment conducive to innovation and further investment. This interaction between project initiatives and regulatory frameworks underscores the dynamic nature of the energy sector and its evolution toward facilitating rather than hindering new developments. 🏦 Development Finance Institutions are invaluable in scaling projects, but alignment with their specific goals is crucial. An enlightening session on World Bank's Rogeap PFM initiative, supported by entities like ECOWAS Centre for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (ECREEE), West African Development Bank, and Power Africa showcased the powerful synergy when international organizations collaborate to propel shared objectives in sustainable energy. 🤝 The market potential for renewable energy in Africa is immense, with vast opportunities for collaboration over competition. Solar is often seen as a mature and thus commoditized technology. Yet, the vast energy needs on the continent provide a fertile ground for partnerships that leverage collective strengths to address Africa’s specific energy challenges. These insights are invaluable as we continue to drive VitaRi Energy’s initiatives forward, enhancing our contribution to Africa’s renewable energy landscape. #RenewableEnergy #GOGLA2024 #Sustainability #OffGridSolar #EnergyAccess

I am excited to be participating in the Africa Energy Leadership Summit going on at the Kigali Convention Centre in Rwanda. ✍️This Leadership Summit is a truly pan-African event for senior decision makers in African who are engaged in closing the continent’s energy and power infrastructure gap. Held under the theme "Investments, Integration, Infrastructure, and Governance to Fuel the Energy Transition." The Summit aims to create partnerships and opportunities that will accelerate targeted interventions and achieve the objectives and pillars outlined in the Africa Power Vision to Action Initiative, and by extension the Program for Infrastructure Development in Africa (PIDA) for a just, fair, and equitable energy transition. ✍️ I am particularly impressed with the engaging interactions and solutions being discussed. Some of the Key Topics include: 📌The role of innovation in driving forward last-mile rural electrification with decentralized renewable energy (DRE). 📌The roadmap to an integrated continental electricity market – Green Finance, PPP and the Energy Transition Gas-to-power infrastructure as an enabler of the energy transition. 📌Energy Security in Africa; How would you design a carbon market mechanism that helps to reduce emissions while encouraging investment into your country's energy system. 📌Transforming energy consumption – building, industrial, agriculture and transport sectors. 👉To find out more visit: https://lnkd.in/d3yj6zxg #Africa #Energy #Leadership #AEE2024 #Sustainability #Green #Electricity #Renewable #Smart #Grid #Projects #MENA #Diaspora #PPP

Invest in Africa…
The World Bank investments in Africa range from infrastructure and healthcare to value-added manufacturing and sustainable tourism. None of them would work without electricity. The foundation of success is access to energy, preferably renewable. #PoweringAfrica African Development Bank Group | The Rockefeller Foundation

Gaziantep Büyükşehir Belediyesi is one of the municipalities in our #greencities programme which we enjoy to do many of of the firsts in Türkiye, and become role model by investing in solar energy for self-consumption of bringing drinking water to the city which we financed. One of key priorities of EBRD Türkiye Country Strategy for 2024-2029, financing of #energyefficiency investments and supporting greentransition of the municipal infrastructure are very important for the achievement of #greeneconomytransition and #decarbonisation targets of #Türkiye.
