Are you tired of working off spreadsheets? Do you believe technology costs are too high for your company? Staffing and recruitment agencies looking for internal technology to support their business needs in 2025 should take a moment to review the WurkNow technology. One of my Favorite Tedtalks is “How Falling Behind Can Get You Ahead” by David Epstein, He talks about how being a generalist (a jack-of-all-trades) can be better than being a master of one in today's fast-paced world. But what hit home for me was his idea that the many successful people you know of had a "sampling period", a period where they tried other things before finding out what they were good at
Let me share a little story from my own experience
During my first few years at university, I was cruising along, getting decent grades, but deep down, I was confused. Then, when I hit my third year, A wave of confusion and disconnect from my studies hit me, and I was worried about what I was doing with my life. I knew I was not dumb and loved biology but what was wrong? My grades started to suffer.
I took part in the mandatory Industrial Training Scheme (SIWES). I was an intern at the Bayelsa State Veterinary Clinic as a Vet assistant and worked directly Under Dr. Isahya the Deputy Chief Veterinary Officer of Bayelsa State. The first day we met he told me all his interns presented him with a report at the end of their stay, stating what they have learned.
My main duties were doing inspections at the local slaughterhouse with other vets and providing a detailed report back to Dr. Isahya every day about the animals slaughtered and any diseases we spotted. Sounds kind of grim, but as I got into the swing of things, I fell in love with animal production and data collection. (Then, I didn't even know what data collection was when I started). That opportunity led to the field of data analytics. The report to I provided to Dr.Ishaya, was the first data report I made (it was horrible, with ugly charts).
After returning my grades improved drastically and that opportunity allowed me to work with WHO Bayelsa as an Independent Monitor on different Campaigns (measles, OBR, and HPV).
What I learned from that experience is that you've just got to try new things until you find what clicks for you. It's okay to feel lost or unsure along the way because every experience adds up and shapes who you are. So, if you're feeling stuck or you haven't found your thing yet, keep exploring, and don't be afraid to reinvent yourself. You never know where it might lead you!

Wishing the LinkedIn Family a Joyful Christmas! - Team FEAST
Maybe never, but during festivities, we tend to deviate from eating healthy and sustainably. We prepare more than required, we eat more than needed, and we waste much more than usual. (Food waste increases by 30% to 50% in many European countries during Christmas compared to other times of the year!)
So, this festive season, we can do our bit to save us and the planet by:
- Preparing a shopping list to avoid over-purchasing and food waste.
- Consuming healthy yet delicious meals in smaller portions.
- Storing food appropriately and consuming leftovers
- Sharing food with those in need by collaborating with local food assistance charities such as food banks.
Let’s celebrate the relevance of healthy, delicious, and sustainable food.
Happy Holidays and Merry Christmas to everyone in this amazing community!

The research evidence is clear that companion animals, or pets, can provide many benefits for human mental and physical health. The concept of the human-animal bond suggests that pets can also benefit from relationships with humans. But given the degree of control humans have over their lives and environment, the needs of pets are not always adequately met. By recognizing their sentience, or emotional and cognitive capacities, and meeting their species-specific needs, we can improve the well-being of our pets. In turn, we can enhance our animal-human relationships and bonds.

𝐆𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐟𝐮𝐥 – What are you grateful for today? I know way back when before my coaching diploma, I cringed when someone asked me that question!
I think I (maybe you?) was caught up in a negativity bias, lingering on bad news or unpleasant experiences, hence letting moments of positivity fade into the background.
It was hard work, in the beginning, to consistently show gratitude, it was surprisingly difficult. Fortunately, gratitude is like a muscle that you can build. With the right exercises and practice, you can find at least something small to appreciate on even the bleakest of days.
Sounds super cheesy right, but finding gratitude in your personal place and place of work has incredible benefits. It uplifts your mood, fosters stronger relationships, and changes the way you see yourself and others.
I am 𝐠𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐟𝐮𝐥 the team at VetStaff (see what I did there 😉) shows gratefulness every morning, it sets our day up positively.
Maybe this is something you as a team leader could explore with your team? How is your work environment? Is it a place you wake up excited about going to Monday mornings? Or is it a place you dread the thought of come Monday morning?

REVIVE YOUR DRIVE in MINDFUL MAY: Here at VetStaff, we start off all our meetings - yes! even those when there are just two of us - with sharing something we're grateful for. Why? Because I know it's good for the brain. It's also about looking for (at least) something that's good in our lives. It also creates a bit of a "pause", a moment to "collect" before the meeting kicks off.
One thing I am very (very!) grateful for is the amazing team of women I have the privilege and honour of working with everyday:
Kajal Rambritch - for her support and expertise - her attention to detail is superb! Since August 2021.
Tania Bruce - for her passion and enthusiasm about finding the best job matches for veterinary professionals with our great client clinics. Since March 2023.
Lizzie Swanson - our newest team member - for her extensive vet clinic experience and excitement about being able to see the veterinary sector from a different angle. Since April 2024.
What are you grateful for?

The Circus Elephant
I saw a video on social media the other day of an elephant being born. What a spectacular sight! Seeing this reminded me of a lesson that was taught to me several years ago. It goes something like this:
The circus travels all over the place, so animal security is an understandable topic to address. The way they do this with baby elephants is then the circus gets to a new town, they secure the young elephant by driving a giant spike into the ground, then attaching one end of a heavy chain to the spike and the other end firmly around the leg of the elephant.
No matter how much the young elephant tries, he is unable to break free. As a result, he learns to not try.
It is said that an elephant never forgets.
So when we fast forward a few years, we can find the same elephant traveling with the circus to yet another town. This time, however, the elephant is not secured with a giant spike and chain. No. This time they use a short spike and some rope. One end of the rope is attached to the spike and the other is tied just snug enough for the elephant to know it is there.
And you know what happens?
Nothing.
Even though the adult elephant has more than enough power to break loose, he doesn't event try.
I share this story with you because it describes so many of us. We feel like we are restrained by something that happened so long ago. Allow me to remind you that you are not the same person you were a decade or even a year ago. You may not even be the same person you were a month or a week ago. You have the capacity to grow and improve all the time.
Today, I want to challenge you to pull and tug against the ropes and small spikes in you life. I will encourage you to challenge some the limiting beliefs that may be holding you back. Great opportunities are out there, my friends!
Have a great day, Linked In!
