This is my professional association's vision. The mission is for a self-empowered population, managing their health and wellbeing, to thrive in life. We'd like to see a health coach in every public and private health care setting, in education, workplaces and communities. Health coaching is a non-clinical intervention. It is the application of coaching knowledge and specific tools and techniques for lifestyle modification and behavioural change in a health and wellbeing context, to aid self-empowered health decisions and support people to improve their health outcomes. Understanding Creative Health in London Report Mayor of London & London Arts and Health A new report commissioned by the GLA and written by Dr Rebecca Gordon Nesbitt with London Arts and Health finds that the Creative Health sector is making a significant contribution to the capital’s health and wellbeing. The 'Understanding Creative Health in London' report details the evolution, scale, character, and maturity of the creative health sector in London. The report addresses the following questions: How have the arts and health sectors evolved to improve Londoners' wellbeing? Who makes it happen and under what conditions? What are the sectors' main challenges and opportunities? The first of its kind, this research unpacks the history of creative health in London, tracing a sector in expansion to this day. 🇦🇺 Why do I choose to work with health professionals? I believe in the importance of working with health professionals because I have personally experienced the benefits of therapy over the course of 15 years. It's been a significant part of my journey, and I'd like to share why. I want to make it clear that therapy hasn't given me all the answers or a perfect life. In fact, I've come to peace with the idea that it never will, and I find comfort in that realization. Instead, it has given me invaluable emotional and psychological tools to navigate life's ups and downs, broadening my perspective and continuously helping me grow. For me, therapy is a safe haven where I can openly express all facets of my personality to a trained professional whose sole aim is to guide me toward personal growth and improved well-being. The tools I've gained from therapy are ones that I will carry with me for a lifetime. However, it's important to emphasize that therapy is effective only when you're willing to put in the work. It's truly life-changing only if you're open to introspection, self-inquiry, and self-improvement. As Socrates once said, "Know thyself." Delving into one's inner self is not an easy task, but I firmly believe it's the most crucial work we can undertake for long-term well-being. It's astounding to me how challenging it is for us as humans to look inward and how essential it is for a fulfilling life. This is why I am eager to work with health professionals, especially psychologists and those with holistic perspectives on health. In many support professions, developing a reflective practice is a compulsory and essential part of the persons development. For example, counsellors, coaches and in health and social care to name a few. I have seen first hand however how valuable this reflection time is for those of us in the corporate world. From the article: “For some time now, being a health professional has been a tough gig.All too often, however, we are told that the answer is an individual one, with workplaces recommending counselling through initiatives such as Employee Assistance Programs (EAPs), and always, to do more ‘self care’. Whilst it is important for us to look after ourselves, a focus on EAP and self care misses the point, and worse, as it locates the problem in individual workers, when these are political, cultural and systemic issues. After an interesting discussion on Resilience with my peer learning group. I learnt the term Salutogenesis and thought I would share it with you. It’s an umbrella term for all the intrinsic factors which lead to wellbeing. As healthcare professionals we are always looking to focus on modelling self care, although like everyone else we can get so busy that we forget this. It is something we have to circle back to regularly as it the underpinning of wellbeing and our practice. And hopefully over time we become unconsciously competent of our abilities in this realm which is why talking about it can be so helpful, like anything enabling it to be made more conscious. How can you enhance your self care today?

Today I facilitated a workshop for a group of self-employed health practitioners on the topic of self-worth and self-confidence in asking for, or charging, [more] money. And what a fascinating and varied set of conversations and insights came out of it. In preparing for the workshop I found this profound definition of self-worth, and a comparison definition for self-esteem: Self-esteem is what we think and feel and believe about ourselves; Self-worth is recognizing “I am greater than all of those things”. It is a deep knowing that I am of value, that I am loveable, necessary to this life, and of incomprehensible worth. The work of self-worth is deep and lifelong. Especially for so many women who have been told to play small, be good, - but not *too* good or bold. It requires a detailed examination of our beliefs, values, self-talk, drivers… It also requires us to prioritise our sense of self as much as our sense of other - and many service or health providers have an over-conditioned ‘other’ skill set: empathy, relationship skills, compassion. It requires boundary-setting too. What is your self-worth work? How do you maintain your heightened sense of self-worth?
