This is a helpful perspective. Good dressage = less risk on cross country I think the gap is maybe how do you get a good dresssge score and interestingly a recent webinar on the Ridden Horse Performance Checklist hosted by Horses Inside Out presented research that showed a previous years Badminton winner scored 0/24 for ‘pain’ behaviours in the dtesssge warm up whereas those who had problems cross country - failed to finish / eliminated / high penalties reached the threshold (>= 8/24) for demonstrating behavioural markets of pain. This suggests there are horses competing at the top level when they are ‘not right’ and this could be contributing to the risk of fall / injury or worse for both horse and rider. I guess the question is what do we do with this information? Can it be used to help mitigate the risk?
Following on from David's article yesterday - the wonderful Heather and Euan have written us - Badminton Cross-Country: What can be done to optimise safety? "There has been a whole body of research in the last five years that has identified key factors relating to safety cross-country, so what lessons can we take from this research and use ahead of today’s cross-country at Badminton Horse Trials?" Read Dr Heather Cameron-Whytock and Dr Euan Bennet take on the marginal gains that can be applied to ensure the integrity of the sport whilst improving safety. How preparation for Badminton Horse Trials is going… Dares to check the long range weather forecast for Badminton Horse Trials and our first outdoor event of the year. Immediately checks wellies for holes, packs waterproof coats and lots of layers and consults the internet to see if putting chunky 4x4 tyres on the van is a good idea. Please, please, PLEASE join me in doing some sunshine dances for the next week or two! #badmintonhorsetrials #weather #forecast

#SportGovernance inside India has stayed in troubled waters forever now: we wrote this a few years ago and the ground reality has not changed much since then: https://lnkd.in/gtk3wNYx The requirements for a body to manage a sport in the country are dictated at two levels — internationally, Parabadminton is required by Badminton World Federation to be governed by Badminton association of India — Nationally, while the Indian government loves using the #disabled and #sport bodies as their pathway to vote banks, there is no policy to enforcement level commitment to enhance sport! Most of the government efforts are aligned towards bringing home the medals more than creating an active culture of healthy sporting! Secondly, Paralympic Committee of India is not a very evolved body to manage and control Para Sports in India. While medal count does project like India has really progressed on advancing sporting rights of persons with disabilities, it must be noted that the athletes have to navigate through a lot of politics to make it to the podium even under PCI. The struggles are many. Moving Parabadminton to PCI control will make it easier for corruption pathways to get more robust inside Para sports. The solution is a radical reform of how Para sports is governed inside India. Shifting responsibility between both the bodies will not solve the issues. It will still be a transfer of power to manipulate disabled athletes from one corrupt body to another Sports Authority of India | Vikas Pandey | Anjali Vyas | Sunil Jain | Arman Ali | Shuvro Ghoshal | shuvojit moulik | Civilian Welfare | Shampa Sengupta | Anita M. This is extremely disappointing form Badminton Association of India (BAI) 💔😓 Nitesh Kumar, the gold medalist at the Paralympics, along with many other Para-athletes, has requested BAI... to hand over Para Badminton to the Paralympics Committee of India (PCI) 😰 Reason? Because the BAI doesn't treat badminton and para badminton equally. While BAI is leaving no stones unturned to for our abled shuttlers, they remain UNBOTHERED when it comes to Paralympics 🥲 Even on social media, there was just 1 post for Para Badminton throughout the Paralympics Games 🤦♂️ We won 5 medals 🥲 This is so so unfair BAI 😡 You cannot discriminate like this.. Either clarify or if you can't do your JOB, then handover Para Badminton to PCI. Kudos to Nitesh for speaking up 🫡 Badminton association of India Image Credits: IndiaSportsHub
