Happy Thanksgiving Friends! And yes, we have much to be thankful for... no matter how bad we think things are, they could be worse, and for too many, they are. When you get to my age, almost everything is seen through the lens of nostalgia. And Thanksgiving Day TV was not to be missed in my day... and no, not just for the after-feast Football games. Many would remember the spectacular Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade, eclipsed only the New Year's Day, Rose Bowl Parade. Thought about those heady days of childhood in America's Golden Age this morning. Looked for the Macy's Xmas Parade, but it was only available with a subscription. The Philadelphia Parade, a solid imitator, was carried live on Roku through an abc-tv affiliate outlet in Philly. What I noticed amidst all the great musical entertainment, bands and dancers, was the number sponsored by 'charity' or representing charitable causes. And Ads, one presumes, were making Corporate media large amounts of money, given the numerous commercial minutes and announcements. Even our charities are profitable business. Which left me with the distinct impression we aren't economically better off, 60 years later, with trillions more in Wall St. value, and astronomical personal fortunes among the top 1/10 of 1%. Multi-Billionaires are the new 'Millionaires'. With globalized capitalism, one suspects the North Pole is someone's corporate subsidiary, the elves are contract foreign labor, and the big man himself is just seasonal help - no benefits and certainly no retirement plan. ;-) Memories of better times never die, they just fade away with those who kept them. Consistent with today's economics, Santa has just showed up in Philly, courtesy of Blue Cross - as insurance is the most profitable business in the US, while there is some question of how much longer Macy's will be able to hang on in brick and mortar retail. The Amazon Thanksgiving Day Parade? Having trouble envisioning the Holiday Spirit in warehouses full of robots. Maybe they can dress them up as elves? Less than 4 shopping weeks till Christmas Dear Hearts. Yes, the days do get shorter, when the days dwindle down to a precious few... Let's make the most of them. One more day, one day more.

I have a plan for Halloween 2025. Fully embrace it, refocus it, turn it into a new tradition with ancient roots and use it as a reminder to live life fully. The tradition of honoring the dead is ancient. Cultures paid and still pay homage to the dead. In modern life we often remember the dead with sorrow, loss and perhaps a sense of isolation and loneliness for those left behind. In past times, we didn't expect to live into our 90's. There was no focus on longevity. No expectation of it either. Death came, not from diabetes, heart disease, stroke, alzhiemers disease and cancers... it came from starvation, combat, infection, child birth, plagues, water-borne diseases, attacks from other humans and animals. Our ancestors lived for today, in all it's fullness. Their lives were more contained to local issues in local areas. Relationships were nurtured, neighbours supported. Death came more frequently, unpredictably and younger. We should absolutely ramp up Halloween. Here's what we should do: Spend the week remembering death. Recalling the ages and stages of death of family members. We should picnic in cemeteries and remind ourselves of where we all end up. We should fast for 24 hours to cleans ourselves of products that contribute to much of our lifestyle disease today. We should gather in groups, around tables, dressed in costume that celebrates death. And we should party. Oh my, we should party. We should party and live that night as though it was the last night of our lives. Now that should shake us out of this consumerism, wealth driven craze we're all sucked into. Remember death. Refocus on death. Celebrate it. Know it. We must remember death, everyday. Remind ourselves to be grateful for the life and lives we have around us today, so we may truly live life fully. A few minutes ago fireworks outside. In October. Obviously a party somewhere. Just for fun. Well, this is no fun. I know from many people with pets, that they start giving their pets tablets or other calming down medication 1,5 month before the end of December, so hopefully they can easier manage New Years' Eve. And what about all the other animals in nature.. and the people who are just walking their dogs in the park.. I react immediately, open the backdoor and scream as loud as I can when there is a pause in the fireworks: "Stop your fireworks, it is a-social!". Immediately it is silent outside. It helped. I am happy. For the animals and children/ babies/ adults who get upset from fireworks. We are all responsible for whatever is going on, because we contribute to it with our energy, beliefs, convictions, thoughts, ideas, opinions. We can make the change. When we change inside, the outer changes automatically. What are you doing when someone is doing something that upsets others/ people/ animals?
