Breast cancer is the most common cancer globally, and by 2040 the incidence of breast cancer is predicted to be more than 3 million per year. The Lancet Breast Cancer Commission has reported key evidence and data in breast cancer research for several years, with a particular focus on spotlighting the experiences of people living with breast cancer that are more likely to experience inequity in their cancer care. A brand-new 2024 report from the Commission highlights the significant inequities experienced by those living with breast cancer today. These disparities – primarily related to physical symptoms, emotional impact, and financial burden - are often hidden and inadequately addressed. To tackle these issues, the report provides an evidence-based road map that calls for changes that ensure no one is left behind. October is breast cancer awareness month. Early detection is key! Have you scheduled your mammogram? Every October, I'm reminded of those I know who have encountered breast cancer, personally and have fought so hard to beat it. ▫️Breast cancer in women has a 91% survival rate after 5 years, but is the second leading cancer cause of death in women. ▫️Sadly, black women have the highest death rate from breast cancer, compared to any other ethnicity. ▫️Almost 13% of women born in the USA will develop breast cancer in their lifetime. If you or someone you know is looking for free resources to obtain a mammogram or are currently fighting breast cancer, take a look here for grants and more information from the United Breast Cancer Foundation: https://lnkd.in/d6TPdMgy You can read more here about breast cancer statistics from The American Cancer Society: https://lnkd.in/dNd8f3BA #breastcancer #earlydetection #mamogramssavelives #breastcancerawarenessmonth #theamericanbreastcancersociety #unitedbreastcancerfoundation #affinityplanningpartners #womenandwellness #healthiswealth

Together let's make Zero Deaths from breast cancer possible. Today marks the start of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Every day 58 people in Australia are diagnosed with breast cancer, and sadly nine die from the disease every day. Over their lifetime, 1 in 7 women and 1 in 550 men will be diagnosed. For 30 years, we’ve been empowering people to make an extraordinary difference – by supporting world-class breast cancer research that improves outcomes and ends deaths. We fund research focused on better understanding how to prevent and detect breast cancer early, how to stop the progression and recurrence of breast cancer and how to effectively treat hard-to-treat and metastatic breast cancers. Today we're sharing some great news! After 25 years of advocacy by Breast Cancer Network Australia (BCNA), people with metastatic breast cancer are now being counted in the state of New South Wales. The numbers presented by the Cancer Institute New South Wales show that we have been wildly underestimating the amount of people with the decease. Previously, the Australian estimate was of 10,553 people living with the disease nationally. This new verified data shows 7,900 people (7,850 women and 50 men) with metastatic breast cancer in New South Wales alone. This reveals the urgent need for accurate data nation-wide. It's Breast Cancer Awareness month and National Mammography Day, an annual campaign to raise awareness of this complex disease and to remind all women their best defense is early detection. Overall, women in the United States have a 1 in 8 chance of developing breast cancer in their lifetime, according to the American Cancer Society. Detect it early, treat it early - Although breast cancer screening cannot prevent breast cancer, it can help find breast cancer early, when it is easier to treat. In addition to yearly mammograms, Breast self-exams is a useful tool. https://lnkd.in/e6cZyHdp Screenings are typically recommended at age 40, but their are reasons individuals may get screenings earlier. Regardless of your age or risk factors, it is always smart to focus on breast health and regular screenings, as well as getting your annual physical. Talk to your PCP to see if a screening is right for you. 🎗️
