Today is National Manufacturing Day - with Make UK ⚙️ 🔧 ⚗️ Manufacturing has been and continues to be a key sector for activity and employment in all parts of the Humber with 287,000 people working in manufacturing in Yorkshire and the Humber alone. It accounts for 10% of the regional workforce. Top industries in Humber include chemicals ⚗️ pharmaceuticals and health 🩹 and food and drink 🍞 This year, Make UK are using National Manufacturing Day to promote manufacturing as a good choice for those starting careers. With hundreds of manufacturing companies over a wide variety of industries in Humber, those getting into the sector will certainly be spoiled for choice. The acquisition is complementary, combining the sales network and customer base of Sonoco’s TFP business in North and South America with the manufacturing capabilities of Toppan Group’s global packaging business. On 20 February 2024, 73 industry leaders from nearly 20 industrial sectors signed the ‘The Antwerp Declaration for a European Industrial Deal’. Many more have signed since then, including the European Tyre and Rubber Manufacturers’ Association (ETRMA). The ETRMA thus joins over 900 organisations across 25 sectors asking for industry and industrial policy to be at the core of the new European Strategic Agenda for 2024-2029. The ‘Antwerp Declaration’ is a call to the governments of European Union member states as well as the next European Commission and Parliament, expressing an “urgent need for clarity, predictability, and confidence in Europe and its industrial policy.” The aim is for a deal that complements the EU’s Green Deal and ensures the retention of “high quality jobs for European workers in Europe.” The Declaration outlines ten urgent actions for restoring European competitiveness while protecting jobs and supporting the Green Deal’s climate goals. “We call on European policymakers to continue to strive for sustainability while maintaining Europe’s competitiveness,” says Adam McCarthy, ETRMA secretary general, “so that the tyre and rubber industry can fully contribute to sustainable smart mobility in Europe.” https://lnkd.in/eBBwe-Zc

On Friday, July 26, SCA presented the interim report for the second quarter of 2024. SCA’s earnings for the second quarter were stronger compared with the preceding quarter and the year-earlier quarter. Demand for fiber-based products gradually grew during the first half of the year, which led to progressively higher selling prices that positively impacted earnings. The high rate of self-sufficiency in wood raw material, energy and logistics continued to contribute to effective cost control and the strategic capital expenditures recently made in pulp and packaging paper resulted in higher delivery volumes. 🌿 How to report in accordance with CSRD as an Automotive Supplier? 🚗 A question most companies face. The short answer is: There is no industry-wide standard yet. The longer answer is: We can certainly see trends in the benchmarking we conducted of management reports of OEMs and tier 1 suppliers, who are already trial-running their sustainability reporting with the reports published this year. Some categories were broadly mentioned: 🏭 CO2 emissions 📦 Materials used in production 🤝 Human rights and fair labor practices 🌈 Diversity, inclusion and board composition 💼 Compliance, ethical standards & anti-corruption And our project best practices show: Suppliers engaging with the ESG topics and preparing for CSRD compliant reporting, lay the foundation for future success. 💡 Building on the understanding of the current state of the company along all ESG dimensions enables future-oriented thinking: A forward-looking strategy should be developed - based on sustainability and innovation. 🪴 Thank you to CLEPA - European Association of Automotive Suppliers for having us at their CLEPA PLAZA Webinar "CSRD in the automotive industry: Best practices in reporting, data collection and management".
