This is the final installment of our three-part case study series focusing on a client of ours that hosts high-impact virtual wine tastings quarterly. The final thing they do really well is they give their attendees a profound takeaway. They bring in a thought leader who presents market research. This offers additional takeaways for attendees plus an incentive for an easy yes to drive attendance. They also use our personalized follow-up strategy. We create a customized video, and they send it out the morning after the engagement. We also take guest notes for the sales team to craft a personalized touch. #ClientRelationships #ClientRetention #VirtualEvents

This article from Nosh.com (link in the comments) popped up in my email and it caught my eye because it featured prominently our clients NoBull Burger (and our packaging design!) - then I dug into it and found a very interesting take on big shows (Expo West) and smaller, regional shows and the perspective that brands have when it comes to participating, or not participating, in these shows - here’s a quick summary: At the Virginia Food and Beverage Expo, nearly 200 local brands showcased their innovations. Amid economic considerations, brands like NoBull Burgers and True Made Foods chose strategic focus over larger trade shows, prioritizing direct marketing and customer engagement. Key takeaway: In today's tight economic climate, emerging brands are becoming highly strategic with their resources to foster sustainable growth. It’s very interesting hearing brands leaning into the smaller shows - we’re lucky in North Carolina to have the Flavors of Carolina show which is one of the best shows I’ve gotten to attend because of its size and hyper focus on bringing retailers and NC brands together. Have you experienced the impact of choosing smaller shows over larger ones? What are your thoughts on strategic focus in brand growth and customer interaction? #BrandStrategy #CustomerEngagement #FoodAndBeverage #LocalBrands #SustainableGrowth #PackagingDesign #betterwithbuttermilk

What Conferences Should I Attend? One of the most popular watercooler topics at events is other events! After dozens of conversations about this topic at Shoptalk, clearly a self-selecting group, here is the stack rank of conferences I heard about in general eCommerce. 1 - Shoptalk Vegas 2 - NRF These first two were somewhat expected. 3 - Etail West. This was a consistent top answer. Particularly for marketers. 4 - CommerceNext. A notch below Etail West but was mentioned consistently as great for around Director level marketing roles. All others did not rate this high. Other honorable mentions: The Lead. Also Manifest (naturally) and Modex for supply chain would rank higher for that audience from my conversations. There was a lot of general confusion around the upcoming Shoptalk Chicago Fall event. What and why. Now there are 4 Shoptalk events a year including a grocery shop. All I spoke with consistently mentioned that Vegas seemed to be the top event expectation. See you out there! Btw — If you are heading to the Extensiv conference I will be a keynote there. See you soon!

Do your people TRULY know what differentiates your business from your competitors? I went to the #FineFoodsAustralia #FineFood40 convention yesterday to pop in on one of my Growth Advisory customers. Being the curious, gregarious, sleuth that I am, I walked around speaking to a range of businesses in the food and related industries. As I chatted with them, I asked 12 such businesses, what differentiated them from the slew of competitors they face, and who were also exhibiting there! NOT ONE (!!) could give me a clear answer, or one that made sense to me. Many couldn't even cobble up any answer. It was as though I asked some obscure, unheard of question 🤔 Let'sremember, they were at one of Australia's largest conferences - and they're there to "win business " and build their brand. Our clients are all encouraged to find their differentiators. Those key attributes that create space between them and their competitors AND that are highly valued/needed by their core customer. In other words...they have a clear strategy! The attached photo is an output from an exercise we love running with our clients. Very revealing and provides huge insights to drive a winning strategy. How well does your team know your differentiator(s), AND how clearly can they articulate them when asked? Hope you're growing well!! Matt Kim Diana Eugene Tom Edward

Awards for top bars, best campaign, best brand, best marketer, best bartender... I'm not a fan of the "everyone should get a prize" mentality, but let's have an honest conversation about success in the drinks industry. Not everyone is made for prizes - and that's perfectly fine. Some of the most successful people I've met in 20 years across 30+ markets aren't on any "top" lists. They're: • Professionals who chose depth over visibility • Brand managers who consistently deliver results • Career bartenders who masterfully run their shifts • Brand owners building sustainable family businesses Success isn't always about winning awards or selling to a major corporation. Sometimes, it's about: • Building something sustainable • Mastering your craft • Creating real value • Enjoying the journey • Defining success on your terms The younger generation, growing up with social media's constant pressure and vanity metrics, needs to hear this: it's okay to choose your path. https://lnkd.in/e5_QaQzf Thoughts?
