#givingback Post 1: Points that can help convert FP&A interview This June I complete 8 years into the field of FP&A. I have been fortunate enough to have worked with brilliant minds, extra-ordinary business leaders, great mentors and never to forget about the friendships that I can cherish forever. Recently, I have also been involved for hirings and therefore wanted to share the pointers (applicable for 2-5 yrs of FP&A work ex) that people may want to leverage in case they are looking out for change and appearing in an interview. 1. Ensure that you know well about the role whether it’s for Corporate FP&A ( that majorly works for CFO office and overall company financials and budgeting ) or Business FP&A (Supporting specific segment with financial analysis, budgeting, consistently updating owners of the segment about financial performance and areas of improvement with advisory) 2. Should know full fledge process of budgeting and forecasting. This involves explanation around top down approach, distribution of targets, bottoms up approach and in the end marrying top down & bottoms up 3. Make sure to put pointers that exhibits quantitative impact that you have made in your existing or previous jobs 4. Should show calibre that about how well you are integrated with your P&L and how do you impact each line of it. Always give business flavour to each pointer you make 5. Display how you have solved a problem using technology 6. Demonstrate how often you are involved in decision making and interacting with key stakeholders 7. In the end, be genuine and take a strong stand in the views you present supported by logic. If I am missing something, pls add more in comment section. Hope it helps you land your another adventure.
