2025 will be a very big year for digital inclusion, we also have a skill shortage! Digital Accessibility specialists will very likely be in high demand and with the European Accessibilty Act due to land June 2025 we will need all hands on deck. We need to; 1) Provide opportunities and time for people to upskill if they want to specialise in digital inclusion. Check out this free training resource by Business Disability Forum resource https://lnkd.in/e2Tjrr6a 2) Focus on building strong, innovative champions networks that are supported at a board level. Check out the Champions of Accessibility Network https://lnkd.in/eJXWTNJY 3) Share, collaborate and thrive with others even if they are your competitor as we are all in this together for the same reason. 4) Watch out for burn out! Which was a great suggestion by the Champions of Accessibility Network recently at AbilityNet TechShare Pro. Remember if you are looking to hire an Accessibility specialist this year… it must to be a long term commitment not just a quick fix, you will need to look after them! #Accessibility #Job #Career #Digital #Inclusion #Technology #Disability

🌟 Let's talk about accessibility! 🌟 🔹 Everyone deserves equal access to opportunities, so why is accessibility still an afterthought in many aspects of our lives? 🔸 We often take for granted the ability to navigate physical spaces, websites, and technology without barriers. 🔹 Imagine a world where everyone can participate fully, regardless of their abilities. 🔸 By prioritizing accessibility, we can create a more inclusive and diverse society. 🔹 Accessibility isn't just a nice-to-have, it's a fundamental human right. 🔸 It's time we shift our mindset from accommodation to inclusion and design with accessibility in mind from the start. 🔹 Let's challenge ourselves to think beyond compliance and strive for universal design. 🔸 Together, we can make the world a more accessible place for all. 🌟 How do you incorporate accessibility into your work and life? Share your thoughts in the comments below! 🌟 #Accessibility #Inclusion #Diversity

This. I'm seeing so many contract roles for #a11y specialists, and these companies posting these jobs are setting themselves up to fail. The very fact that they're posting contract roles indicates a lack of understanding of how digital accessibility works. Unless you plan to never make changes to your UI or content, #accessibility is not a one-and-done thing. That's not how remediation works. Seriously, why would you spend all this time and money on auditing and remediation, just to get an ADA complaint because you didn't bother to change your culture or processes, and your dev team screwed up your site's accessibility within the first sprint after you got rid of the specialist?

What comes into your head when you hear about 'Accessibility'? Something like this photo? Whilst you are right, it’s also good to keep in mind that having a 'disability' doesn’t always mean what may come to mind first. There are non-visible and visible disabilities. Have you ever considered accessibility related to digital resources? Today Global Accessibility Awareness Day is about highlighting Accessibility in the digital world. Designing and writing with accessibility in mind means that you are trying to ensure that your content can be read and understood by as wide an audience as possible. That includes the one billion people worldwide living with disabilities. At Tetra Tech Europe we have now made modifications to our template documents to ensure we are being inclusive. ✅ Our fonts are now Arial, a more readable choice, with some larger sizes. ✅ Line spacing has been increased 1.5 to help readers who have trouble tracking lines of text. ✅ Capital letters header formatting (i.e. HEADER) has been removed, as using all capital letters can cause accessibility problems. ✅ Underlines and italics have been removed, as these can be hard for people to read with low vision or processing disorders. It is small changes which have a huge impact. It is great to work alongside colleagues (John Black, Klementyna Ziomek, Natalie Wilson to name a few) who have been working on driving positive changes forward with this initiative, and others. It was also lovely to interview Klem for this piece, who shares some very valuable insights and work with Dean Meadowcroft on it - link below. #DisabilityAwareness #InclusionMatters #AccessibleWorld #EqualAccess #AccessibleTech #IncludeMe #DisabilityRights #AccessForEveryone #UniversalDesign #CelebrateInclusion #InclusiveDesign #DisabilityPride #AccessToOpportunity #BreakingBarriers #gaad #GlobalAccessibilityAwarenessDay

I recently asked a few people what was the first thing that came to their mind when thinking about accessibility in large companies. The responses were very interesting. And were very different when asking accessibility professionals or asking people working in large companies. Accessibility pros were providing ideas such as: * Corporate culture change * Universal design vs Accessibility * Standards conformance vs accessibility * Disability language * Growing corporate empathy * Not relying on business case alone Whereas folks working in large companies had a different set of concerns: * Accessibility is arduous and challenging * Accessibility should be a higher priority but it's hard to make it so * Teams within the company aren't all on the same page * Accessibility is confusing - too many mixed messages and too many "sources of truth". This tells me that we, the accessibility community at large, are not doing what companies need! What would YOU add to either of those lists? #Accessibility #CorporateAccessibility alt text for the photo of my dog embedded in the image.

On May 16th, 2024, Workhuman joined in the celebration of Global Accessibility Awareness Day with various events held in both of our offices. Global Accessibility Awareness Day (GAAD) aims to spark conversations, raise awareness, and educate people about the importance of digital access and inclusion for the over one billion individuals living with disabilities. It's essential to envision a world where digital content is accessible to all. Many may not realize that for a significant portion of the population, access to online information is not guaranteed. At Workhuman, we understand that promoting inclusivity in the digital realm is not just a choice, but a necessity. Some are sitting on stools and some are standing. #LifeAtWorkhuman #GAAD
