Fun finance fact friday Did you know the first credit card ever created was inspired by something as simple as forgetting a wallet? In 1950, Frank McNamara, a New York businessman, went out for dinner with clients. When the bill arrived, he realized he had forgotten his wallet. Embarrassed and frustrated, he began thinking of ways to ensure such an incident never happened again. This led to the creation of the Diners Club card, the world’s first multipurpose charge card. Initially, the card was accepted at just 27 restaurants in New York, but it quickly gained popularity, changing how people paid for goods and services. By the end of its first year, Diners Club had over 20,000 members. Fast forward to today, and credit cards have changed the way we handle money, offering convenience, rewards, and even financial security when used wisely. That one forgotten wallet laid the foundation for an entire industry that now processes trillions of dollars in transactions annually. So, next time you swipe your card, remember—it's all thanks to one awkward dinner moment. ♻️ Repost if you learned something new. P.S. What’s a financial tool or habit you can’t live without?

Commercial credit fees for merchants hover at around 1.9-2.0%. Pay by Bank meanwhile is c.0.4%. That is an incredible amount of a merchant's profits getting swallowed by by the credit card firms. And what's more, Pay by Bank is instant, no waiting around for 3-4 days (or even longer!) before you get paid.
Merchants! Slash your transaction fees by 80% and start getting paid on the same day. How does that sound? If like FIREAWAY PIZZA LTD you feel that paying 2% fees for commercial cards and waiting days to receive your money is far from optimal, then give this link a click --> https://lnkd.in/evDaG_iN

Ever had a sticker shock when using a credit card? 🤬 I was at a restaurant recently and treated my table to a nice meal, handing over my credit card when the bill came. Then our server returned with my card and receipt. My jaw dropped. The restaurant essentially charged me 4% extra for using my credit card! I called our waiter, asked to have the card transaction voided immediately, and handed over cash. The sticker shock made it a negative experience - my expectations were not managed and I won’t go back. It could easily have been a positive experience though – with an upfront discount for paying cash or debit. Of course, I get it, card acceptance fees add up and merchants are starting to drive the behavior they want. 👏 But it doesn’t mean that consumers must be punished when they could be rewarded. How should merchants drive consumers away from credit cards? Let’s hear it in the comments. 👇 Are you ready to join me in evolving the payment landscape? Let’s connect and strategize together!

My brilliant CEO, Alexandre Gonthier, breaks it down. We all live in an enlightened commerce world where we know customer experience trumps almost everything. With new rules allowing merchants to price differently between cards and cash/bank, is it better to penalize for cards (stick) or reward for cash/bank (carrot). I'd love to hear your answer or better yet come over to the original post and join the conversation! #openbanking #payments

Driving consumer confidence with bank-to-bank reassurance as a safe, easy, secure, and reliable payment method is a win-win for both merchants and consumers. We can drive consumers away from credit cards by providing frictionless software solutions to merchants, enabling them to better serve their clients. Engagement incentives such as gamification, loyalty programs, 'debit' discounts, instant settlement (building consumer confidence), and instant returns (voiding is a UX too - as you experienced here, Alex!) can make a big difference. Additionally, referral and word-of-mouth rewards (similar to what Revolut push hard on) could be effective strategies. This is a great thought experiment, so much room for creative ideas and solutions on top of existing infrastructure that is readily available today through bank-to-bank payments solutions just like Trustly!

Last week, I returned from a refreshing vacation. While exploring a busy spot in Sweden, we encountered a significant issue - a local café that only accepted local payments (the sign says "we don't accept cards), turning away potential customers who couldn't pay. This highlights a common problem where merchants fail to meet consumer expectations on payment options, resulting in lost customers, reputation, and revenue. It's crucial for merchants to adapt to modern consumer needs by offering diverse payment methods. If you're interested in learning more about these solutions, I'm here to discuss. Let's ensure a seamless experience for both businesses and customers. Wishing everyone a wonderful rest of the summer! 🌞🌿 #PaymentOptions #ConsumerExpectations #BusinessSolutions
