Today, I’m interviewing a candidate at 10:00 a.m. – yes, on a weekend! This is my “unlock the weekdays by working weekends” strategy… because when you’re in startup mode, every day feels like a Saturday. The real trick? Making each “Saturday” count. Yesterday, I went full-on with LinkedIn Recruiter and Workable, scouring for that unicorn candidate who’s got a bit of everything: operations, executive support, automation, and maybe even some hidden superpowers. Monday’s shaping up to be ‘Inbox Explosion Day,’ when all those InMail replies I sent over the weekend start pouring in. But here’s the kicker: in startup time, those responses are going to feel two weeks too late because a single day here equals a week in the “real world.” Timing really is everything – the magic happens when you find the right candidate at just the right moment, and both of you are ready to dive in. I know no candidate ticks all the boxes (and I wouldn’t want them to!), but if they can hit 70% and go the distance – if they get our mission, vision, and core values – we’re in business. When a founder’s focused on unlocking growth, does this person have the energy and interest to join the ride? At the end of the day, it’s all about life alignment: do our quirks, ambitions, and “startup Saturdays” sync up to make something great together? Young Founders are always fun to meet and work with (well, many are), but too many are completely stupid about their 6 day in-office work weeks. May sound cool but it’s not. When you start hiring people w real experience, this ridiculous requirement will quickly become a liability. Just because you have no kids or are obsessed with work as your primary purpose, or are trying to “set the tone,” doesn’t mean others have to be willing to give up their lives completely to follow you, and they just won’t. So drop the bullshit, read the market and adapt to it. Fine, RTO, set up office culture or whatever but thinking it’s cool to work people to a point of total exhaustion is naive and short sighted. And you will starve yourself of talent. Building startups is like middle distance running: you’re always a bit hypoxic but you’re sustaining a high pace, but not sprinting a short distance only to find you can’t even finish a single lap before everyone is on the ground gasping for air and unwilling to keep running. Then what do you have?You want your work force energized but not burned out or pissed off or exhausted. That means letting people live a reasonable personal life and keeping batteries charged. And while I’m at it? Everyone: knock off the constant non emergency texts, especially on weekends. Texts are intrusive and annoying most often. Leave people alone on weekends and evenings unless the topic is truly critical. People have lives. Wanna keep them? Let them live. 2025 is gonna be a fun year. So get after it! But play the long game.

Sharon was an executive assistant to Mr Priya who happens to be the CEO of Pineapple ventures. She got the job three months ago and was really good at what she does. One time,the national grid responsible for electricity in her country collapsed and there was nationwide blackout. As a remote worker,electricity is of extreme importance to you. The first few days,she tried looking for alternatives to power her laptop and phone which worked for a few days but one day while she was in a very important meeting at work,her laptop died 😢. She didn't know what to do at that point,her mind was blank and she tried to go get fuel to power the generator but met a long queue there.
