Why are recruiters only hiring for current and recently graduated college students or "experts in the field"? Is it that the jobs in the gap between "Principal/Staff Engineer" and "Intern" are filling quickly, and I'm missing those? Most senior role posts ask for 5+ years of experience with specific technologies. Most Junior or Associate roles want only "recent grads", defining it between 6 months to a year in most cases. Where are the openings between those specific stages in life? I understand that offering opportunities to new graduates is good because they're fresh in their learning and it's smart to provide a pathway from education to the workplace. The problem comes when that's the only pathway. I've considered applying to a master's degree program partially because it would put me in the "recent grad" demographic after a few years. That seems backward to me: one should want to further their education to understand a subject matter, not to fill out a document requirement or demographic status. Am I missing something?

New grads/early talent- the job market is tough on this population right now and many businesses/companies are missing out on an impressive group of young professionals. The linked video is really interesting from the HR/AI and talent acquisition perspective - hiring managers and companies need to rethink their practices if they are using some of the ATS and AI options that are keeping these new grads from finding entry-level jobs!
I have talked with others who, like me, have spent time looking for entry-level jobs in STEM post-college. Throughout my search, I found myself consistently asking "Why does this 'Entry Level' job require 3-5 years of work experience in the job qualifications?" I've heard a number of perspectives on this, but I have recently watched a video by Damon Cassidy (linked below) that goes into a high level of detail about the modern state of "Entry Level" job postings.
