Each Fall, I embark on my "Fundraising Frenzy" to support a local organization, matching donations along the way. This year, I am dedicated to Camella's Cupboard Food Pantry for Children, a local organization that focuses on providing Food for Kids. E̲v̲e̲r̲y̲ ̲s̲t̲o̲r̲y̲ ̲i̲s̲ ̲u̲n̲i̲q̲u̲e̲,̲ ̲a̲n̲d̲ ̲f̲o̲r̲ ̲k̲i̲d̲s̲ ̲f̲a̲c̲i̲n̲g̲ ̲f̲o̲o̲d̲ ̲i̲n̲s̲e̲c̲u̲r̲i̲t̲i̲e̲s̲,̲ 𝗜𝘁'𝘀 𝗡𝗼𝘁 𝗧𝗵𝗲𝗶𝗿 𝗙𝗮𝘂𝗹𝘁. Camella's Cupboard Food Pantry for Children is a remarkable local initiative, sending over 500 families in the area 60 lbs of fresh food, necessities, and more each week. The need is clear - kids are going hungry. Shockingly, 1 in 6 kids in CT experience food insecurity, but since 2018, Camella's Cupboard has been making a difference. It's all about the kids. Feed Needs is a charitable initiative by Lean6SigAgile dedicated to addressing food insecurity by providing safe, nutritious food to underserved communities. Through partnerships with food banks, local farms, and community organizations, Feed Needs sources and distributes essential food resources to vulnerable populations, including low-income families, seniors, and the homeless. The program prioritizes efficient, compliant food handling and distribution while promoting sustainable impact and community well-being.

Do you prefer chicken nuggets or chicken fingers?! I recently enjoyed sometime with loved ones in Las Vegas and my two year old little cousin Yara demanded chicken nuggets and macaroni and cheese. This made me think about what donors demand and prefer! ✅Donors philanthropic landscape can be this simple… ✅We often over complicate things by making donors more likely NOT to give … ✅Be quiet… listen… and follow through with connecting to what he/she prefers….and tailor to their needs. ✅Don’t push peas if they prefer chicken nuggets and macaroni cheese! Their $12,500 gift puts us at a little more than $30,000 raised so far. Putting us closer to our $75,000 goal! In just the last year, the Redwood Empire Food Bank has served an average of 61,000 people a month, more than 4,000 people more a month than they did last year. One of the sadder components of that statistic is that, among those 61,000 people, there are an average of 840 new families a month. As a continuation to my post from Monday where I shared about my involvement as a Board member for the School Garden Support Organization, I wanted to expand on my “why”. And why my purpose and passions are centered on supporting equitable learning, school gardens, sustainability, and representation. Today, the majority, ~70% of agricultural workers are foreign born migrants. They are the backbone of our food supply chain, yet often are not given basic human rights or access to the systems/programs we all take for granted. Often, they are the center of vitriolic language and unfair policies; Our farm workers do not receive the respect they deserve. I would like to see dignity and pride in farm work restored. I would like to see agriculture in all forms seen as a meaningful career path. An industry that is valued as significant and has high importance; And that we support through our education system. How can we honor our migrant workers, and the legacies of Caesar Chavez and Dolores Huerta? I think it starts by supporting organizations that teach youth the importance of gardens, farming, sustainability, and communities.
