As with anything in life, finding a balance is key. Nobody is saying you should sit around and play games all weekend, but recent advances in modern gaming have meant a broader range of options. Prior to the internet transforming the way we played home console games or interacted with likeminded gaming communities, there was a reasonably strong argument that sitting on a chair for several hours a day and staring at a screen playing a repetitive game was probably not the best way to keep ourselves sharp between the ears. #GamingBenefits #PositiveGaming #HealthyGaming #GamingLifestyle #GamingWellness #GamingCommunity

How Gaming Can Positively Influence Lifestyles As with anything in life, finding a balance is key. While there’s definitely an argument to be had, the gaming landscape in 2024 is totally different from what was on offer 25 or 30 years ago. This push for technological innovation has led to gaming becoming a broader spectrum, bringing in other avenues, including brainteaser games, visual response games, and augmented, strategy-based games that can be used to improve focus and mental agility. #GamingForGood #PositiveGaming #GamingBenefits #GamingCommunity #HealthyGaming #GameOn #GamingLifestyle #PlayToLearn #EmpowerThroughGaming #LevelUpYourLife

Let's talk about input devices. From the Wii-remote to the Xbox Kinect to the Meta Quest, we have a variety of video game input devices that are designed to get us to get up and MOVE! These devices have in common that they use 3D spatial tracking to determine the physical position of the player, but they differ significantly in the underlying technology that they use. 1. The Wii-remote is actually a Bluetooth enabled IR camera, which detects the location of the infrared emitting "sensor" bar. Coupled with an accelerometer, the device is able to tell where on the screen the player is pointing as well as make inferences about various gestures such as swinging a tennis racket or performing a dance move. 🕺 😎 2. The Xbox Kinect uses multiple cameras to create a depth map. A depth map is an image where the brightness of a pixel corresponds to how far away it is from the camera. Then it uses a pose estimation algorithm to align a premade skeleton with the image of the player. The Kinect was able to detect the player's hand and individual fingers. 3. The Meta Quest uses a collection of cameras, computer vision algorithms, and machine learning inferencing, to create a map of the player's environment. The device is also capable of tracking hand and finger positions which are useful for interacting with it's gesture system. The hand controllers are used for additional input and are also tracked using computer vision. Finally, and most importantly, it tracks the position and orientation of the player's head which is how it produces VR content that the player can realistically move around in. What's your favorite input device for gaming? Mine is a tie between the Xbox Controller and the iPhone (touch screen + accelerometer = awesome).
