🌟 How we turned ‘too nice’ into ‘truly kind’—and unlocked growth at Codewave 🚀 A few years ago at Codewave, we faced a unique challenge. As an organically grown company with lots of friends and referrals, we had a problem: Everyone was too nice to be honest. 🤝 What this looked like: - Friends couldn't give friends tough feedback - People stuck in same roles/capability levels for years - Performance issues buried under 'they're working long hours' - Org growth moving at a snail's pace 🐌 What we did? Teach friends that real friendship means caring enough to have tough conversations. What we learnt? - Separate friendship from professional feedback - Know the difference between 'nice' (avoiding truth) and 'kind' (speaking truth with care) ❤️ What we did: - Trained everyone on honest feedback (Check out Radical Candor by Kim Scott) - Made it okay to disagree in meetings - Started calling out problems early - Added this to new hire training Today at Codewave: - Friends help friends grow - Career progression is faster - Decisions are quicker - Org growth is better - Teams are actually happier High performance individuals are happier. 😊 Remember: Your real friends want you to grow. Sometimes that means having uncomfortable conversations. 👉 Have you ever faced the challenge of being 'too nice' at work? Last week I completed two years since I joined Codewave, and wow, what a ride it’s been! Coming from a traditional hierarchical setup, I was used to a very different way of working. Moving to a self-managed environment was both a challenge and a game-changer. When I first landed at Codewave, #SelfManagement was a brand-new concept for me. I had spent my entire career in places where decisions flowed top-down, and there was always a clear chain of command. Shifting to a system where autonomy and decentralized decision-making are the norm, wasn’t easy. I had to ditch a lot of old habits and pick up some new tricks. The first few months were the toughest. Adapting to a culture where teams make their own decisions and where continuous peer feedback is the norm was a big shift. But, I quickly saw that this approach builds trust, transparency, and sparks innovation. It’s all about creating an environment where everyone feels they truly own their work and its outcomes. Within a year, I found myself leading the #SelfManagement initiative. Talk about a turnaround! This role didn’t just test my adaptability; it gave me the chance to drive this amazing initiative across the company. Leading the self-management initiative team meant I had to walk the talk. It involved a lot of learning, unlearning old habits, and picking up new ones. It also meant helping others through this shift, showing them the perks of a self-managed approach. #BoundariesOfAction (BOAs) and #SocialContracts have been total game-changers in this transition. These tools give a clear framework for decision-making, making sure everyone knows their scope and responsibilities. This clarity is crucial for making self-management work and keeping it sustainable. Reflecting on these two years, I’m incredibly proud of my personal growth. Embracing self-management has not only increased my productivity but also transformed my approach to work. I feel more empowered, collaborative, and innovative. As I continue this journey with Codewave, I’m super excited about what’s ahead and all the possibilities that self-management brings. Here’s to many more years of growth, learning, and collective success! #SelfManagement #Empowerment Codewave

Hello Devs. As I sit down to reflect on my journey in the tech world, I can't help but marvel at how far I've come and the reasons that led me here. There are days when I find myself pondering the driving force behind my passion for technology. What sparked this love affair? Why did I decide to dive headfirst into the ever-evolving world of code, algorithms, and digital innovation? The answer lies in the endless possibilities that technology presents. From a young age, I've always been drawn to the idea of creating something out of nothing, of turning dreams into reality with just a few lines of code. It's the thrill of building something from scratch, of seeing an idea come to life in the digital realm, that fuels my passion. But beyond the excitement of creating, it's the impact that technology can have on people's lives that truly inspires me. Whether it's developing software that simplifies everyday tasks, designing user-friendly interfaces that enhance accessibility, or leveraging data to drive informed decisions, technology has the power to transform lives for the better. And let's not forget the incredible community that surrounds the tech industry. The camaraderie among developers, the spirit of collaboration and innovation, the constant exchange of ideas and knowledge it's what makes this journey all the more fulfilling. So, why do I love tech? Because it's a journey of endless discovery, a realm where imagination knows no bounds, and where the only limit is our creativity. It's about embracing challenges, pushing boundaries, and never ceasing to learn and grow. As I continue on this exhilarating journey, I invite you all to join me in exploring the wonders of technology. Let's innovate, create, and inspire together, making our mark on the digital landscape one line of code at a time. 💡✨ #TechJourney #PassionForTech #Innovation #NeverStopLearning

We all have 2 sides, one does LeetCode, one builds. Both are unemployed 🤣 But on a serious note, I’ve been reflecting on the effort I’ve put in throughout my entire college career. From the moment I discovered my passion for computer science and software engineering, to now, as a senior, on the hunt for a full-time job. Here’s what I’ve realized: Sometimes, the effort you put into mastering a skill or pursuing a role you’re passionate about doesn’t always guarantee success. You can spend countless hours solving LeetCode problems, only to be passed over for reasons beyond your control—like an internal hire or last-minute changes. What’s even harder to swallow is knowing that while you hesitate, there’s someone else out there pushing harder, improving, and they might snag the opportunity you’ve been chasing. But here’s the twist: I’ve come to understand that this journey isn’t just about landing a job or hitting a specific goal. It’s about who we become in the process. Every sleepless night, every tough algorithm, every rejection—it’s all shaping us into better, more resilient versions of ourselves. It’s not just about skills; it’s about patience, grit, and self-belief. I have learned this through many role models, most especially my father. Success, I’ve realized, is inevitable for those who are relentless. The missed chances aren’t failures; they’re just markers on the road to something greater. Sometimes, it’s not that we’re not good enough; it’s that the world isn’t ready for what we have to offer—yet. This past month, I’ve found a new fire within me. I’m ready to deliver in ways even my past self couldn’t imagine. So, whether you’re grinding LeetCode or building projects, unemployment isn’t the end of the road. We keep pushing, not for immediate results, but because we know our efforts will compound. Doors will eventually open, not because of luck, but because we refused to quit. The best is yet to come. Keep moving forward. #SoftwareEngineering #LeetCode #Resilience #KeepGrinding #Coding #Persistence

1moPeople-first is not the same as ‘Emotion-first’, often this gets mistaken. Leading with compassion and yet being strategic is a fine balance. 🙌
