Of false culture wars, diversity in the capital and playful politics. Yinka's back. 'The [Yinka Shonibare Foundation] has built an artists’ residency space in Lagos, and a sustainably built “house for artists” in Ijebu that sits on 54 acres of active farmland. Food sustainability is a problem in Nigeria, but the farm is solar-powered and grows crops from maize and plantain to cashew and coconuts. The residency programme launched in May 2022. “It’s been a great thing to do, I would go as far as to say it's been a necessary thing to do,” he says. “It's not been easy, and I still have to constantly raise money, with a long term aim of creating a global network, in which we can raise a proper endowment for it. “But cultural exchange is important to create equity,” he says. “We live in a world of protectionism. Take the climate issue - climate doesn't know whether there's a national border, or whether there's a line in the sand. You're going to drown the same way. So that's why we have no choice but to work with each other.” Does any of this resonate with you? Do you want to be an agent of change? Then do get in touch, DM me and let's chat over coffee. Today, rockets hit cities in our Ukraine. Kharkiv is without electricity, water, and heating. And today, we officially launch preparations for the first international financial literacy tournament. Today, when orcs think they have plunged us into darkness, we dream of light and the future of our state. 🇺🇦 It will take place in Vienna, Austria from April 26-28, 2024. 🇺🇦 It will involve 6-10 teams from Switzerland, Slovenia, Canada, Poland, Germany, Austria, and our native Ukraine. 🇺🇦 The teams consist of Ukrainian children scattered around the world. But this will not be a tournament about money. This tournament will be: 🔆 About partnership, interaction, and assistance. Because in our game #LifeCapital, you can't win otherwise. And it's important for the future of Ukraine that children are raised this way. 🔆 About our Ukraine. Because this is our domestic technology that has already helped and continues to help tens of thousands of Ukrainians change their mindset from poverty to wealth. Because in the training, children will invest money in our Ukrainian banks and open our Ukrainian businesses. 🔆 About connection with the Motherland. And about us remembering and waiting for them to come home. As stated in the letter of support from the Deposit Guarantee Fund to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine: ‼️ "This is a very significant contribution to the preservation of ties with Ukraine and the reintegration of Ukrainian refugees in the post-war period." It is important to us that the tournament takes place. Money is needed to conduct the tournament. All state funds are aimed at winning this war, and we will not be able to receive assistance. ‼️ So it's up to us to find them. Friends, I understand that all efforts are focused on supporting the Armed Forces of Ukraine. That's why I never asked for financial support for financial education projects during wartime. ❗️ But today, it is very necessary. So I appeal to everyone. ✅ Donate 400, 500, 1000 UAH, whatever you can. ✅ Spread this information to potential donors and benefactors. #Together_We_Are_Changing_The_Country International FG Tournament 🎯 Goal: 450,000.00 UAH 🔗 Link to the bank https://lnkd.in/etyiZTP8 💳 Bank card number 5375 4112 1536 7850 Tournament coordinator from our organization Maryna Khosha Ambassador of the Deposit Guarantee Fund Olha Zyrianova

In Parshat Vayakhel, the people of Israel are mobilized to build the tabernacle and to make contributions that will elevate and glorify it. In this week's "Words of Wisdom," Yeshivat Beren-Machanaim's Rabbanit Amira Raanan examines the significance of the people chosen to lead the works - one merited "wisdom of the spirit" from his grandfather, and another who brought creative talent and "wisdom of the heart" to the table - and the interaction between them and those who supported the program financially >>> https://lnkd.in/eEVnsatU

Reflections in Writing: Mabo Day and the Journey Towards Reconciliation Today, on Mabo Day, we honor Eddie Mabo, a Torres Strait Islander whose posthumous victory forever altered Australia's legal landscape and confronted the insidious legacy of Terra Nullius. The doctrine of Terra Nullius, proclaimed by NSW Governor Richard Bourke in 1835 (47 years after the arrival of the First Fleet), falsely declared Australia as 'nobody's land' and conveniently justified the colonization and seizure of Australia's Indigenous territories. Mabo's relentless advocacy laid bare the inherent injustice of this notion, exposing it as a tool of dispossession and marginalization. Despite facing formidable obstacles, including his own battle with cancer, Mabo fearlessly challenged the entrenched systems of power that perpetuated inequality and oppression. His triumph in 1992, 10 years after his legal claim began and 6 months after his death, not only overturned a doctrine that had been entrenched for over 200 years but also sparked a national reckoning with the injustices of the past and a renewed commitment to reconciliation. As I write my book about my father's life as an Aboriginal man who grew up in Australia and later moved to South Africa—a country grappling with its own struggles against apartheid— Mabo's story resonates deeply, serving as a beacon of hope and inspiration in confronting the legacies of colonialism and apartheid alike. As we commemorate Mabo's legacy, let us honor his unyielding spirit and unwavering determination to rectify historical wrongs, reminding us that the pursuit of justice knows no bounds. #NationalReconciliationWeek #MaboDay

Back in September 2017, I ran into Arno Rohwedder at Apimondia Istanbul 2017. Or rather, he saved me (as does a modern-day knight in shining armour) by jumping in when he saw that I was being mildly harassed by another attendee. It was the beginning of a sweet relationship (pun intended) revolving around honey and trade. In this article, he is being interviewed by The Global Prosperity Institute on his work as Director of the largest honey exporter from Tanzania. He discusses perceptions of Africa, African honey, African companies and how the trust imbalance affects us in our work. In creating Bees with Stories, I wanted to showcase that African honeys were spectacular - distinct, rich in flavour and aroma, and of high quality - and deserving of their own segment within the honey market. Arno discusses some of the issues standing in our way. African honey varietals are benchmarked against honey varietals from different origins at a disadvantage, leading to lower prices. One bad experience from a buyer dealing with a not-so-legit company sours the opportunities for all others. The list goes on. A quick read to get a glimpse of the life of a honey trader on the 'country' of Africa. #beekeeping #africa #theafricawewant
