Meet Joan. Joan is working on higher level balance activities in physical therapy after sustaining a fall. In this picture, Joan is working on dual tasking - bouncing a ball as she walks forward. It’s harder than it looks for most older adults and often times ends in fits of laughter. Our Active At Home therapists love to come up with engaging and fun exercises to keep clients motivated while also working on strength, balance and endurance. We offer both physical and occupational therapy in a mobile outpatient model which means we come right to you! There’s no set timeline for how long a child will need occupational therapy, but here are some general patterns: > Short-Term Therapy (3 to 6 months): For children with mild delays or specific skill development needs. > Medium-Term Therapy (6 months to 1 year): For children with more noticeable delays or moderate challenges. > Long-Term Therapy (1 year or more): For children with significant developmental issues, sensory processing challenges, or chronic conditions. In some cases, therapy may be part of lifelong care. To find out what’s best for your child, visit our clinic for a personalized evaluation and guidance on the right therapy plan. Think Therapy 1st, continually look to improve everything we do and as part of that commitment. We have been asking our referrers for feedback. One of the recurring topics that pops up are the monthly update reports we provide. You will get these reports on the same day each month…and you won’t have to chase us up! They will be concise, easy to read, and you will see how the actions of the Specialist Rehabilitation Occupational Therapist (SROT) working with your Client relates to your Client goals. Each report contains a Client narrative, offering an insight into your Clients thoughts about their rehabilitation journey. Additionally, where appropriate, we also include narratives from family and friends to help gain a broad picture of what’s going on in the Clients life. For more information about what makes our monthly reports useful, relevant and engaging. New insights on Partnering for Change (P4C)! With 17+ years of research, our Canadian-developed model for delivering occupational therapy in schools is gaining global attention. In our recent study, we used realist evaluation to develop a theory explaining how and why P4C works. The findings not only deepen understanding of P4C’s essential elements but also offer early guidance on how occupational therapists can incorporate this model into their practice. For those interested in innovative, evidence-based OT models, this open access publication is a must-read! Article written by Sandra VanderKaay, Cheryl Missiuna, Sandra Sahagian Whalen, Leah Dix, Chantal Camden, Jennifer Kennedy, & Wenonah Campbell.
